Today I took pictures of some blue and yellow macaws with the both memories inserted. The CF for RAW and the SD for JPEG.

To my surprise when I noticed all the pictures in both memories were JPEGs then I verified the following situation:

- If you swap CF memories while the camera is ON, the system switches the RAW option for memory 1 to JPEGs as it is in memory 2

Have this happened to you too?

I haven't seen this, as I use CF cards, but will get a SD Wi-Fi soon. I am surprised about this "feature" vs. dumping RAW and JPG to now inserted SD card. vs. now saving jpgs to both inserted and new-ly inserted CF card. This is dumb.

I've not noticed this as I don't shoot jpg but I can understand it happening. I shoot to the CF card only but do sometimes keep a SD card in the camera as a back up. I've noticed that if I take the CF card out and shut the camera door the SD card becomes the default card. If I don't shut the door then all is fine when I put the CF card back in.

So you have it set to record separately, RAW on the CF card and jpg on the SD card.

For starters, opening the card door with it on is no different than turning it off since opening the door turns off the camera.

I set mine to record separately, RAW to the CF card and jpg to SD. I open the door (camera goes off), swap the CF card and when powered back on it doesn't set the CF card to jpg, it's still RAW.

Are you sure you're not confusing it with pulling the CF card, turning it on, and it defaults to the SD card? (which is jpg in your case)

Careful if you're considering the eye-fi, as it's not compatible with the 5D mk III

Which is odd as there is an eye-fi option in the 5D III menu and I use one in mine.

The company feels it's an issue that affects only some 5D Mk III models, not all. I have a feeling that it has something to do with having a CF card that is a different speed than the SD card. They've sent me a few different cards and I've had problems with all, in both of my 5D Mk III bodies. Haven't tried just the SD card without a CF but I have a feeling it wouldn't be problematic.

Thank you for the heads up, but now we have mixed signals..... I guess more research or general usage guidelines are in order.

Ron, try it. You can always return it if you get the Error 80 messages.

^^Yes, I haven't had major issues with my EyeFi and 5D3. I've noticed I've had to power cycle the iPhone a couple of times to get direct mode working again (transfer stopped for some reason), but other than that works just fine.

I use eye fi card with cf cards. Haven't had a problem yet. I also have not had an issue with changing cards out and resetting to jpeg. I leave door open, as states before, and it all remains as set before opening door.

How do you ear mark a photo for uploading with the eye fi? Do you rate it 5 stars?
