I am pretty disappointed on Canon. I bought a lens at the cybermonday sale and they are waiting about three business days to clear my credit card before shipping! They also charged me tax and the lens ships from wisconsin!

I bought another lens from amazon today in the morning and they are shipping the lens today and also no tax!

I never heard of any company waiting THREE days for a credit card to clear. Once you have an authorization is good as cash!

I have never been so disappointed on Canon...BTW the second they charged my credit card I was notified by Chase via text message and email that a purchase have been made by Canon-USA.

I paid for second day air since I need to test the lens before heading to vegas and shoot the pacman-vs-marquez fight.

Maybe if you ordered a 800mm f/5.6 IS they will check your credit. But they shouldn't for something normal.

Dude...I used a credit card... :) Either it gets authorized or no! If I go to a store and purchase something...It gets authotorized and out the door I go...Just like Adorama did!

I agree. I ordered a 70-200 and they did the same thing - held the order and I had to stay on hold for at least 35 minutes to speak with admin before I was prompted to leave a message.

Then at 7:30 PM, while in a meeting, I get a call to confirm this.

If it was not for the excellent deal, I would have just cancelled the order.

they charged you tax most likely because you are in California (which is where it is shipping) and they have business facilities (presence) in California. Thus they are required to collect sales tax.
make no mistake, Amazon is not collecting tax at the moment, but lawmakers are quickly trying to figure out how they can close that loophole and start collecting $$$

When did you order the 70-200 ? Did they emailed that its being shipped ?

I also would have cancelled, but that deal was sweeter than high fructose corn syrup! :)

I spoke with Canon again and after the lens arrives. They will refund my two-day shipping fees...

Canon is not a retailer. It is just something they do on the side.

Exactly! Its kind of like buying from the factory outlet store at the back of the factory warehouse. You give up the high end retail outlet experience.

I've gotten refurb from Canon twice now and both times they were delivered fast (1st one 2 business days, 2nd one 5 business days). Didn't pay for any extra fast shipping in either case.

Good to see they refunded your 2 day shipping.

Canon sells online all of its products so it does make it an online retailer...so it makes no sense for the credit card three days hold up. Plus when I go repair gear at their facility in Irvine...there is no hold up for my credit card.

Plus this is not about them being an online retailer or not. Is about why they hold shipping of a product that was already paid with a credit card.

Amazon started charging CA tax about 1+ month ago. I bought batteries a couple of weeks ago and got taxed 8.75%. How did you get around that?

How come no TAX for CA?

You learned a painful lesson there.

So next time Canon refurb deal comes up, no matter how good the prices are, don't buy.

(i.e., more for everyone else! :-D )
