As a quick tip, usually, in low light you would increase the ISO - that will allow you to get longer shutter speeds.

Increasing ISO = shorter (faster) shutter speeds. Also can be used to narrow the aperture (by using a higher f value) which gets more of the scene in sharp focus (depth of field), with the same shutter speed.

Corrected for you.

Keep the ISO low where possible imo, only push it up in low light conditions where you need a quick shutter speed at the same time. Candid shots indoors for instance

thx Walt, super busy at work but i am going to get the exposure book..dumb question: the software in the camera, how do i sync it with my laptop? and can i load firmware onto my camera via the laptop? thx man, sorry for the painful dumbness...thx,RLB

1 - Not sure what you mean by synching software between your camera and your laptop. Do you mean transferring pictures? There an app that came with the camera called EOS utility that does some things from your laptop - like changing then user name etc.

2- You load the Canon firmware onto the CF card and run the "Firmware upgrade" item on your cameras menu.

I use the canon 70-300mm too, great lens imo :)

AV mode will work perfectly when set up right, and If the pictures are white I'm guessing they are way over exposed. To adjust this: when using the camera look through the view finder and pay attention to the light meter at the bottom of the image. The moving slider needs to be on or near the middle marker point to expose the images correctly.

Hope that helps :)

How do I post photos str8 to this site? When I try to "Insert Image", it asks for a url?

You need to host images on another site and link from there.

When hosted (as you have with your blog page) Right click the image, copy image location then on the forum go to the 'insert image' button and paste the text in there

This wraps the image in a 'tag' which displays the image on here, like this only without the ***** at the beginning

IMAGE NOT FOUND
IMAGE IS A REDIRECT OR MISSING!
Content warning: NOT AN IMAGE

Here's how that same text displays without the ***** in the line
