Domke F-6 F6 little bit smaller review.

I've been on the hunt for a bag for "small kit outings". Something to carry my 5D II plus a couple of lenses. I tried the Domke F-5XC and the F-3X but neither was really "right". The F-3X didn't have enough dividers of the right size and was tough to shoot out of. The F-5 was too stiff and too small.

I almost gave up on Domke but decided to give the F-6 a try.

Here you can see it with just the 70-200 in it (for size) and another shot of the bag with my 5D II and 24-105. Notice how the camera is wider than the bag bottom, yet it fits fine. That's the beauty of Domke.

The bag is tall enough for the body plus lens and could hold a longer lens (mounted) but not as long as the 70-200.

The insert I got was velcro adjustable. The center dividers are sewn together into an X but you can change (somewhat) where they connect to the outer walls.

Also notice I covered the velcro strips on the sides. This way, the bag is more flexible (not tied to the sides of the insert) making it much easier to get the camera in and out.

But what about bigger lenses?

I tried to fit my 70-100 f/2.8 and 100-400L in the bag. They FIT. Mind you, this is without hoods. The 70-200 is bottom-down and the 100-400 is front (big end) down so the tripod color would fit.

The 70-200 is in the "middle" with the 100-400 to the right.

The collar on the 100-400L does bump the 70-200 so I'd be careful carrying it around like this. Truth is, I'd use a different bag for this configuration because I have one that is bigger (ThinkTank).

This is what it looks like with the big lenses inside and the lid closed. Note I was not able to connect the right clasp. I could lengthen it but chose not to for this pic.

All in all, it is more workable in this configuration than I thought it would be.

Thanks for posting this, it's a cool bag. I want to get one, but have quite the collection right now.

I was hesitant when I bought it. Jon specifically talked about his F3 seeing the world while his F6 sees the closet. As it turns out, my experience is just the opposite. I don't use my big lenses with this bag (nor did I with the F3) so this bag is the perfect pliable fit.

Oh, and it is under $100.

I saw your review and I think this might solve a problem I have with my walkaround kit...
I bought one and will let you know in about a week after I receive it...

I used to have an F-6. It's a very good bag to work out of as it's a little bit smaller and shallower than the F-2. I'm surprised that it works for such a bulky kit, I use rangefinders and you can fit fit two RF bodies and four or five lenses in that bag.

NICE review! I love my F6! It's crazy how much you can fit in it This is my setup minus Lee filters and foundation kit.
