Being an older camera, I was wondering if there are any limitations to the type of CF cards the camera will work with? I will be using this camera mainly for landscape/nature (and possibly some indoor "studio" shots), so speed is not a factor (especially since the camera writes slow to begin with LOL). Any input is much appreciated. Gear: 5D3, 6D, 7D, 24-105 f/4L, 70-200 f/4L, 70-200 f/2.8L IS II, 50 f/1.2L, 300 f/4L, tons of other zoom and prime lenses, lots of lighting equipment, and enough patience to get the job done right

ScottBHughes Mostly Lurking 18 posts Joined Oct 2012 Location: N20°43' W156°26' More info | You are on the right track. I had a 1Ds ten years ago and we were using a variety of cards, including the (now) slow Kingston 1Gb. Heck, you could probably shove a MicroDrive in there and it would work.

How large are the RAW files? I only put the 16GB in to see if it would work and secondly, I would be taking a lot of images that day and I did not want to be changing cards. In raw only mode with the 16GB , I can do around 1300 images. With saving raw and large jpeg, about 900. Not much difference than using a 32GB card in the 1DS3. I usually use 4GB cards, which allows me around 330 raw and 230 raw + large jog. Equipment list - According to the wife - "how many more lenses do you need? Yet another camera?"

I have a feeling I will only be using my 60D for video and to get more reach for wildlife photos once I try out the 1Ds. I'm excited already and bought a CF card today while I was out running errands! Especially when you take many hundreds of astro photos... That was one of the reasons for the fast cards - upload to the computer time. After the cards, I ended up with a USB3 card reader from Lexar. Things are all right now! Estimate the USB3 reader to be 10-15 times faster than my old USB2. Makes a lot of difference when the download amount is a few gigabytes!
