I was in Disney this year and I liked using my ultra wide or G15. I settled on a kit of 5d2, 24LII, 40 2.8 and 17-40 plus my new G15. When I used the DSLR I only took it with the 1 lens attached, no bags etc. I used my 24L a bit at night but I was not there for photography, just taking family snaps so I mixed it up pretty much every day but the G15 got the most use, 17-40 second and 40/24 primes least.

Many lenses can work fine there so considering what you currently have I would take the 10-22, 50 and 28-135. I had the 28 1.8 and I thought it was a good lens. I hear the Sigma 30 is better but i never tried it.

I sorta stressed over what to bring as well but in the end I would have been just as happy with a standard zoom.

Thanks for the input. I agree, I've kind of let this consume me.

I did too, I changed my mind on what to take about 5 times.

What happens if the best shots present themselves on the days you have the P&S?

You take them?

I've got 4 kids and I have been to disneyland 3-4x and SLR or PnS, the pics never end up being wall hangers. They are just memories photos. I can print a 4x6 or post to facebook with any camera. Plus Disney has photopass peeps out in droves. It's worth it just to buy their $100 CD and let them carry the big camera all week.

To those of you suggesting a lower prime, have you used the 28 f/1.8? That looks like a pretty solid contender. The suggestion to keep the 28-135mm handy for the trip but use the lower prime makes sense and is something that I can borrow from a buddy (he says if I break it, I buy it ;)), so I'm considering just going that route. I own the nifty fifty (forgot to mention it before because I so rarely use it). Typically my wife shoots and the 28-135mm stays on the camera nearly all the time when she's using it. Personally, I like the 50's sharpness so I try to use it, but as you would suspect it's too zoomed in for most shooting and I've often wished I had a lower value prime.

I have never used one, but the range, speed and cost fit what you are looking for.

Actually, that was kind of my point. Why worry about getting something "better" than the 28-135 when you can make great memories with it just as you can with the P&S and you never know if those memorable moments are going to come along on the P&S day or the 24-70/24-105/17-55 day?

The only thing I could see is using a fast normal prime once the sun goes down. But I don't know, maybe I'm not a real photographer anymore. I'd just as soon have fun and not worry about photos that much when I'm at a theme park. I don't want pictures of rides and shows, because what do you ever do with those? I couple pics of the kids with characters and the family in front of the Castle or other key "landmarks" and I feel like I covered it.

I echo the replies for the 15-85. Took that and my 50 1.8 for night shots. Used my 55-250 for the safari, but not much else.

I could not agree more. Getting a good point and shoot for my disney was the best decision I ever made when it comes to camera gear.

A Rebel body ungripped with a 28 1.8 is walkaround heaven if you want DSLR quality while keeping it small and light.
