Having exhausted the search feature of this site, I come before you now asking, if not pleading, for advice on family portrait backdrops.

I have only a week to decide on a backdrop (10 feet wide). I was thinking B&H since they can ship to Canada in two days, but I have no idea how hard I'll get hit with shipping on items this large.

Anyhow, those are details that aren't my main concern. I need to borrow some of your experiences in choosing one backdrop that might make a suitable 'one size fits all' backdrop - something classy, durable, and in terms of cost, a great value. It should probably be wrinkle free material, and something with just enough texture to make it look interesting. Nothing colourful, but something neutral that could be used that would be compatible for 50 families.

With so many options (online retailer vs. local / paper vs muslin / various styles) I was hoping some of you might have some good suggestions for me.

Look into white seamless. I've used colored muslins, recently I've had success with the white seamless, people seem to like it and it's cheap. Good luck.

white, huh? I have a white background but I was afraid it would look too boring. I like the WHCC backgrounds but they are very expensive. (300 bucks after taxes/shipping). But if people like it and it can save me some money.. maybe I'll do it. hmmmmm

You can gel the background and get other colors. Also, check to see if anyone is selling something used nearby. Not sure if you have Craigslist or something to utilize up there?

B&H has those 9x12 Westcott backdrops for around $100. They come folded in a box so shipping probably wouldn't be that bad.

Have you tried Lightrein? It's Canadian and shipping is fast.
