I didn't regret any of them (I tend to sell stuff for what I bought them for), but I've had a few lenses I haven't been happy with:

Tamron 60 macro f2 - arrived dead, and I had to pay an arm and a leg in shipping to return it.
Tokina 100 2.8 Macro - I realized I didn't want to shoot macro.
Canon 85 1.8 - Soft and tons of purple fringing wide open...got the 100 f2 instead, much happier.
Canon 50 1.4 - had 2 copies, both had AF issues

Few others I can't remember haha..

Depends on your point of view...I agree with the 17-85, but the Nifty Fifty is a great little lens for the price.

Expecting more is like saying a Honda Civic is a garbage car, because the Ferraris are much faster and better looking. For the money, they get the job done well enough!

70-200F4... just never used it.

love hate the 85 1.8. Love the quality, hate the FL.

50 1.4, worse lens ever
35 F2 nice lens, not for me.

canon 70-300, total junk (might be the 75-300, cant recall exactly)

Sigma 150-500 OS = too soft at wide open making it terrible to crop some images.
Tokina 12-24 f4 = too slow AF and a lot of flare.

500 shots? Keep 5!

50 f1.8 II. I don't find anything about it 'nifty.' I will be selling it whenever I get around to it.

I was expecting more given all the rave reviews. It hunts for focus, is slow, noisy, and you get out of focus images when it is least expected.

Save your $100 and invest in some better glass.

Tamron 17-50 2.8. I read rave reviews about this lens and I came from using strictly a 50mm 1.8 and I actually thought the lens was decent when I first got it. After using it for about a month I think the lens is crap....it doesn;t nail focus as much as I'd like and when it does nail focus it's not as sharp as the 50 1.8, the contrast and saturation a long with the cast that it produces is terrible and I never use the wide end (17mm, I mostly find myself using the 35-50mm range).

So now its for sale and I'm going to get a Canon 85 1.8.

100mm f/2.8 macro. Sharp, but slow AF. Got tired of macro.
70-300 non-L. Soft at 300 wide-open.

I'd have to say Sigma 105mm macro, didn't care for the build or the focus (it extends when focusing and the AF is slow and noisy). Also the 24-70 mark I, too soft at 2.8 and 2.8 just was not fast enough (sold it and bought the 35L, never looked back).

Easy one. The Canon EF 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 III USM. Was never happy with a single photo it took, even figuring in my lack of talent.
Fortunately, it was $89.95 at Walmart so it didn't sting much. Sold it 6 months later.

+1 for me. I got this lens with my first dslr, a 550D (T2i) and I never got a keeper from it. Probably the worst lens Canon has ever made.
