I noticed as you went further east it became less glamourous (for want of a better word).

Oh, you have no idea. ;) Actually it's the west part that gets dodgy. From West to East, it goes Airport -> Downtown -> Ward -> Waikiki -> Diamond Head -> $$ Kahala $$ -> Hawaii Kai. We used to joke that my boss never made it on the other side of the airport, and I don't think he ever did in 5 years.

I recall a stabbing which lead to murder in the middle of the day downtown once. A helicopter chace another time... etc. etc. But, what do you expect when 50% of the people loitering around down there look like the rejected extras from Breaking Bad. :p

The beaches though, rocked. I jogged at Ala Moana a few times a week, swam there a few times a week. Very nice, very quiet. Got a lot of thinking done. Enough that made me realize I need grid lock in my life.

There's been a lot of urban renewal in the past 10 years or so. Chinatown area's now filled with "artsy" boutiques since the Hawaii Theater renovations. Lots of block parties there and street festivals. The rest of Oahu seeing suburbanization even the west side and parts of the Leeward coast. As with the rest of the US there are areas poor areas on the Leeward coast as well as Kalihi area.

Couldn't figure out which one I liked most so I uploaded both. :) I sure wish it were a steam locomotive though...

I like this HDR one over the regular. I feels more natural while looking at the grass to me.

They're actually both HDR. Just processed in B & W differently. :)

Shampoo sounds like an unfortunate name for a hair product.
You're a ghost driving a meat-coated skeleton made from stardust, riding a rock, hurtling through space. Fear Nothing!

I left in late 2006 (basically 2007) and went back 3-4 times a year for work through 2009. The only area I spent any time in consistently in was downtown, and it never let down in terms of character. That's not necessarily a compliment. :)
