I'm just wonder if they were standing on something edited out or if the gutters are that strong.

This is a composite of 4 pictures my husband and youngest son, my oldest son actually standing on the ladder, me, and the dog. All was taken standing (hanging) at our correct places and photos were stacked then masked in (or ladder masked out). Hardest part was getting the exposure correct between each shot since the sun was in and out between clouds. So I just left that and adjusted exposure later in PS. ;)
