I bet if you puke on your lens, it would etch the lens element, so it's quite possible salvia could damage the coating

Probably less dangerous than a bit of salt sea spray on your lense., and think about all the dust in the atmosphere, better only change lenses in a hermetically sealed environment :D

Luckily, any degradation caused to your lens by "onion breath" can be corrected using layers in Photoshop.:lol::lol:

Well, that explains why my lens dissolved when I tried cleaning it after a good hot curry.

This is true. I only use bottled baby yak breath (well known for being free of harmful acids) imported from the plateaus of Tibet to clean my lenses. It's not cheap, but you gotta take care of your equipment!!!

I don't know, but if you get a bottle of that baby yaks breath that should take care of it.
