Dear friends,

I have been away from POTN and, specially, from this thread for a very long time. I recently posted a picture to the 10-22 thread and ontonagondave was kind enough to mention that I have not posted here in forever. Its so nice seeing some of the old names here: Marubozo, Peter, Killerclown, waterrockets, etc.

This thread is soon to be replaced by its 5th incarnation, and I hope to be part of it. I still only ever use our trusted T2i and I still think its capable of incredible pictures! Its hard to think that after the 60D, T3i and T4i have been anounced, the quality of the T2i is still right there sharing identical IQ with the 'newer' brothers.

I went on a trip to Europe at the beginning of this year, so I thought I'd share a bit and not only talk about the camera! LOL! (some of these have been shared in the lens specific sections, so I apologize to those who have already seen them):

Most of these are common places and one cand find much better pictures all over the internet, but its always nice to have your own take of this iconic landmarks which have captured the imagination and creativity of so many others.

Best regards friends, hope to keep seeing all your wonderful pictures and sharing our moments with this incredible camera.

Rafa.
ps. I really must say that the work posted by x_tan all over the forum is just breathtaking, thanks for sharing your pictures.

So I got a 550D when I was in Australia earlier this year and have been trying to learn. Here are a couple of pictures I shot last weekend while driving through Olympic National Forest in Washington where I recently moved. I am pretty new to this so any advice on my shots or compositions is greatly appreciated. I have been reading along on the forum for a month or two and think you guys are pretty fair on your comments so please be kind...

Those are safe shots. They are good. They are well executed and well processed. They will appeal to the masses and they are salable. Is this your goal? I'd say you acheived it.
I would personally look inot adding a human silhouette (or multiple silhouettes) into photos like that; it is an easy way to make the photo more relatable withoug attaching it to any one person.
Oh, and welcome to the thread. The nicest folks on POTN are in here :)

Thanks guys. I am actually very pleased with this piece even though it did not turn out the way my grey matter intended.

After re-reading my post i should have said that they are "fine" the way they are... assuming that was the look you were going for. I tend to tay away from brochure style shots in my body of work but when I shoot them I like to include some human along with the nature. It gives it scale, it gives it personality, it completely changes the entire aura of a photo. You may or may not like the idea but I think it gives a landscape just a little more pizzazz without detracting too much from the gorgeous spread in front of the viewer.

Winter's Night

This is a cool idea that inspires me towards something similar.
