I really like this shot! Me being a little strange and my brain inferring things in the picture, it looks like the boy on the left is about to murder the boy on the right with a knife because of the light string. I'm probably the only person that thought that though so don't take it as any sort of criticism. I just need to play less video games.

Nothing too fancy, took everything I had to get them to sit still together for 1 second to take this. :)

Very impromptu shot of my Great Niece..... no flash and window light behind her & the tree so it was tricky getting enough light into this shot.

Ha! I would have never noticed that!

There was no Christmas cheer left by the time we got the good photo. I love the second photo as it pretty much shows what we were up against trying to get them to sit still.

This was my first attempt at using off-camera flash with a reflector umbrella (which William, the older one, managed to tip over a few times).

Wow so many beautiful captures. How do you get those colored dots in the background?

Can only speak for myself but I presume others used similar techniques. About 2-3 metres behind my boys I set up a net of white Christmas lights against a white background. Used a reasonably wide aperture (f2.8) to get a shallow DOF whilst keeping both of them in focus in the foreground. Small lights then appear as dots due to the bokeh effect.

The dots on my pics aren't as rounded because I used the cheap and cheerful 50mm f1.8 which has a 5 blade aperture.

I did a couple of Christmas shoots today. Pretty happy with the outcome.
