I pay $1.48 per $100 insured through State Farm personal articles policy.

Covers theft, damage due to me dropping, misplacement, etc... Everything except mechanical failure due to age (wear and tear, basically).

$0 deductible.

I just sent them an excel spreadsheet of all my items, cost, serial number (if they have) and they update and send me the updated list in mail. I generally update before a trip or event and I am covered the minute they put it in the computer.

Nothing but great things to say about them!

That's pretty awesome, do you have any other insurance with State Farm or is it a stand alone personal article policy? Definitely going to give the local agent a call tomorrow.

I do have my car insurance and life insurance with them, but I don't believe that makes much difference. I have heard the same pricing/policy info with others who have nothing else with them. So just give them a call and see if the details match up for you! I believe they will, though!

I have my policy with State Farm as well and upon looking, the rates are similar to what's posted. Cheap for what it covers and zero deductible.

Went to a State Farm agent last week. You can get the pap policy without any other insurance thru them. Not real happy about it, but will do it. Was quoted $134 per year for $10,000 of insurance. $215 for 16,000. Just bought a used 500mm and they were not sure how to value it. May have to insure it like a version II.

I will update the actual cost of repair once Canon receive the lens, don't know how much it is going to cost yet but the guy at Canon California's facility handling CPS calls was very nice.

On the other hand, at least I could get a 30% discount on the repair with the CPS membership....

Canon CPS received the lens today and the actual cost after discount was a little over $200, about $90 in parts and $200 something in labor, and got 30% CPS discount.

I did that to a 16-35 - it cost 400AUD to fix

They replaced the rear half of the lens body

My 24-70L they told me it will cost $750 to repair it, ok, so they know we have money and we buy very expensive gear so they charge us fortunes to repair our gear, and you think we are rich lucky, huh!

The same exact thing happened to my 24-70 2.8L II over the weekend.

I don't know where to start, can anyone point me in the right direction?

Go to canon's website, submit a request for repair, print the label and send it in for an estimate. There really is no shortcut.

Update. I got my lens back, it still has the scuffs but it works well and I also think Canon cleaned it. The total was $530($142 in parts and the rest was labor and shipping), I shipped the lens out on Monday morning and I got it back on Saturday.

Overall I am very happy with the experience.

A friend of mine did that to his 16-35 2.8 and it cost him $500.00

It was $385 to fix my dropped ef 85mm f1.2l II. CPS+ discount included.
