I used to own a 60D and as far as i remember, i can set different settings on video and stills.

For example in stills, I can have my ISO set to 400 Aperture at F4 and shutterspeed at 1/200sec.

while in Video, i can set it to Auto ISO F1.8 and a shutterspeed of 1/60sec

I can jump from stills and videos without changing any settings.

In my 5D Mark III, whatever i set in stills will be carried over to my video when i switch. For me this is annoying.

Am I missing something? Please share your thoughts on this. Thanks.

what i usually do is set everything up for video: ISO 320, f4, 1/60, custom white balance, custom picture style, etc and then register it to the C3 on the mode dial. It'll save ALL the settings. Then go about my business shooting stills with the standard picture style, and my photo settings, switching whatever i want, because you know you constantly adjust my exposure settings when shooting stills. i know i do. Then whenever i need to shoot video, i just move the mode dial ALL THE WAY to that one side and all my settings snap into place. That's why i use C3 instead of C1, so i dont have to make sure it's two clicks from all the way to the one side. i can just do it by feel.

Hope that helps.

thanks. it helps.

i got my c1 setup for video now. Auto ISO, AWB F4 1/60. Neutral. Inside LR, you can correct the white balance so no problem there.

thanks.

Yup. I use the custom modes as well. Works ok, but since I do all manual settings (WB, exposure, focus) there's still a fair amount to be tweaked after changing the dial to C1, C2, etc. Shortens the process for the stuff that's buried in menus though.

Well, you can correct to a degree in LR, but it's like making corrections to a JPEG. Unless you're shooting on a BlackMagic CC or a higher end camera like the RED, you're going to be shooting in a compressed codec. How good that compression is depends on the codec and camera. If you trust your camera enough to leave the ISO and WB set to auto for JPEGS and not worry about correcting it later then it's probably enough for you. Making color corrections to video files is not really the best. It's best to get it right in camera.

I agree with you. Have you tried that in LR? Capture a frame, fix it and save as preset. go to your video and apply the preset you just made?
