WOW!
1&2 are awesome.
3 is very close but the nose seems a bit OOF. I would have loosened the crop and changed the aspect ratio on 1&3 a touch, especially on 1. BUT I'm being picky. These are fantastic! Wish some people could hold a pose as well as that dog!
Well done!

Great shots of a beautiful dog. I like them all.

I would probably not have selected a gray background but it worked surprisingly well and I will certainly consider a gray background for my next black dog shoot...

You have also done a great job capturing the dog's beautiful coat texture.

Thanks. Nose is OOF as it was shot with 70-200 at f8. Should have shot it with smaller aperture. Aspect ratio is something that I never change.
I totally agree with you about the pose. That is why dogs are so great to shoot :D

Cheers.
Well I only have white, gray and black BG so I used gray and black. Dark BG works great with dark dogs. When you shoot black coated dog against black BG, you need to use rim lights to give coat some texture. I used 3 lights for all of these. Main and rim on both sides of the dog.
After one hour of shooting she was totally knackered and slept rest of the day :)

Really nice lighting, especially given the all black hair.

Softbox as key and shoot-through for fill?

Thank you Sir. No fill, just main and 2 rims.
Here is the lighting setup for 1 and 2. For #3 its the same but BD was gridded.
That and tiny bit of PS gives nice shine for black coat
