Hey everyone so I am brand new to this site so sorry if I don't do this right but I have a question.

I am thinking about getting either a 60D or a t4i for Xmas. I am going to use it a lot for video but also a decent amount for photo's. I cant really decided what one I want. I am leaning towards the 60D because of its body but I do like the new auto focus on the t4i. However I keep hearing about this 70D rumor. Does anyone have any clue when that is suppose to come out. I am thinking about holding off on getting a camera until that one is dropped. I just don't know if it is worth it. I would love to hear your opinions on it. Also what do you think my be the price difference between the 60D and the rumored 70D?

Most recent rumor is that the 60D won't have a sucessor. So, no 70D. Only a 7D mk2, and maybe a new Rebel.

What are you going to use the camera for? A 7D mk2 will be a serious dent in your checking account. You can pick up a t4i or 60D, save money, and then focus on nice lenses. No pun intended :)

Since your main use will be for video then it make more sense to get a T4i. It's optimized for video. You can still take great photos with it though.

60D and T4i have essentially the same autofocus system. The T4i has a newer and faster processor, which might help AF perform a little better. It's also designed to take full advantage of the new STM lenses, which 60D isn't. I really don't know much about that, though... I think it's mostly video-related and I don't use my DSLRs to shoot video.

I usually don't buy the best newest body because it's not really worth the huge premium and the money can best be spent on lenses. Lenses will make the biggest impact on your image quality.

You may want to watch some videos on the T4i video AF. Make sure you have a good idea of what the AF is like in real world use, not just on paper. Reading that it will AF in video with STM lenses may not work in practice as well as you think for what you want to do. Just a head's up.

The 60d is cheaper than the T4i and still has a few other upgrades over a Rebel: better battery, top LCD, better viewfinder, better ISO selection, better grip/feel (subjective obviously), more customizable, etc

It's stunning just how nutty some of these rumours are.

Sounds like the Super Rebel ( 60D ) was replaced by the Full Frame Rebel ( 6D ). Maybe that is the fate of the 6 series...

Personally, since the 7D's software was recently updated with a major rev- I'd think that the 7D mark II is a ways off.. A new Rebel comes out about once a year, I think.

I also think that the AF system is improving as newer models have shown recently- the t4i is a bit more accurate than other Rebels I have had- I find it quite accurate... Newer models have the advantage of more research and development going into them... For video-it's a touch call... I'd take the t4i for video- others might take the 60D.. If you can focus manually well- in video- that levels the playing field- and I'd likely have taken the 60D.. But I know my limits- so I took the t4i- it's better in the automated AF for video than I was for manually focusing in video.. ;)

If there isn't going to be something that "feels" like a 60D successor there will be a 7D successor labled the 70D.

If you're worried about taking a bit, then buy CLP or used, otherwise you'll never buy a camera, especially seeing as the 80D is just around the next corner.

Well I am waiting for the new 7Dmk3, the rumour is that they are going to sell it as a kit with the new 100-400 so it will be a fantastic birding / zoo set up , although I have concerns about noise in the new 60mp sensor .;)

Why do you think they are nutty?

Probably because if that happened, there would be an entry level DSLR kit for ~$900, and the next step up would be ~$2000 with nothing in between. The XXD series have been and are highly popular, there's not much reason for Canon to discontinue it unless it is sure that enough people who would have bought a 70D would spend the extra money on the 7DII instead of going down to the 700D.

I thought that had been confirmed. I was surprised to see it called nutty. If the 70D were to come out, it probably would've been out months ago.
