Hey Guys,
So one of my photography friends is strongly considering making the switch over to Canon form Nikon due to Canon's impressive lens selection...
Any words of advice to help her take the plunge into the dark side? :)

Don't you mean from the dark side? :)

Well, there's the lenses mentioned above, but there are many "unique" reasons for going the EF route:

65MP-E; no equivalent lens from anyone, given it's so niche.
17mm TS-E; no 17mm TS lenses on any other platform, with shift-stitch it's like an 8mm lens!
24mm TS-E; sharpest wide angle lens ever made by anyone, zero CA and corner softness at 0 shift.
8-15mm Fisheye; it's basically like having two lenses in one.

And of course, the relatively short flange - focal plane distance means that the EF mount can be adapted to handle a large variety of manual-focus vintage lenses using an adapter ring.

I acquired an expensive camera so I can hang out in forums, annoy wedding photographers during formals and look down on P&S users... all the while telling people it's the photographer, not the camera.

Each side is as dark as the other.
They both take pictures and its easy to switch.

The most important thing to do here is remain calm. There are plenty of resources to get the help she needs. Have you reminded her that only the Dark side has cookies? Is she perhaps not a cookie lover? Let's take this step by step. Has she sold any lenses yet? Go ahead and ask...I'll wait...

I'm selling Nikon gear.

But yes, what are they shooting with now? Is it a big jump or they just started in Nikon and plan on going big with Canon? These are the things we must know!

With no information about what she has, what she shoots, and what she's thinking she's lacking, not much can be said. I am a former Nikon shooter. In most cases, switching systems is expensive and usually doesn't accomplish much. For ever piece of grass that is greener on the other side, there are two more that are dull brown. Both systems are great to the point of surpassing any photographer's abilities, and yet still have holes as well. It will always be that way.

I was just reading some posts on another forum from a fellow shooter that I talked with a lot when we both had bought the same Canon body. He's switched to Nikon several years ago, and now is talking about some Canon things that are better... I get the feeling he's thinking of another system switch.

So back to my first comment.... what gear do they have and why do they think they should switch to Canon?

Canon is not the "dark side". With their white lenses.... while nikon has black lenses only.
