Any other 60D users? What sort of ISO are you comfy with (max ISO) for say 1024px digital copies?

no flash ive gone up to 4000iso.. a little noise never bothers me, but that can still be corrected in LR.

After my credentials were ****ed up last night, I sat through an entire Tiesto show and didn't get a single picture worth keeping :( FML. 10,000 person arena, massive production, and I was stuck in the crowd with two cameras, my bag, hoodie, and leather jacket. Trying to get a decent frame with a T3i and a 85mm. On the bright side Zedd showed up later at my work, and raged in the crowd. I'm surprised people didn't recognize him, mad cool points for that.

Gear question:

I am debating on getting a 50D or 60D. Can anyone on here that uses either tell me what you like/dislike about it? I like the revolving screen on the 60 but I heard that the body is not as "solid" as the 50.

Also, on the 40D that I had, I used a Tamron 17-50 non vc, I am now torn between the same lens or the Canon 17-40L. I know, I know, 2 totally different lenses. How do you 17-40 L users like it for the nightlife/low light? Is it worth the $200 or so difference between the Tamron brand new and the Canon?

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks y'all:cool:

I have the 60D and absolutely love it. The only issue I have with it is not having MFA. The body feels great in my hand and very solid - I get the impression that because it's not made from magnesium alloy like the 50D people instantly assume it's going to feel really light and cheap but that isn't the case at all. I always thought the revolving screen was a huge gimmick and a waste of money - but have lost count of the times I've used it! Noise at ISO 5000+ is pretty intense, but still produces some usable photos.

I've had 3 copies of the Tamron 17-50 (non vc) and all had horrible front focussing issues with my 60D. In the end I got a refund and now use a combination of a Sigma 30mm f1.4 and Tamron 10-24mm which I'm totally happy with. The only thing I'd probably add to my kit now is a 50mm or 85mm for a bit more reach.

Nothing you probably haven't heard before - but just my experience with it. :)

^^Thanks D! I did also have front focusing problems with the Tamron. It did have a 7 year warranty on it so I did not have to pay for it to be fixed BUT, I had to be without a lens for a month:confused:

The 60 shoots video, right? How is it?

I have the 60D and have been using it for nightlife for short while now and it has been great.
Got to agree...the screen makes it a winner and wa shooting ISO 3200 on Saturday and the images are fine even without noise reduction in LR with 1024px images. Gets a bit softer with noise reduction in LR on higher ISOs I found. I do not know why they put at 12800 on it...its useless. If you want a picture of hot pixels it may come in handy?
As far as build...its in one piece. The grip is comfy and even with a 3rd party battery pack I used for climbing over weekends, its been fine to hold over 4 hours.
Only gripe I had is the apature setting on the wheel control on the back of the body only (as far as i can tell)...if you have smaller hands, it can be a pain till your used to it to use it one handed.

I have a tamron 17-50mm and it seems to focus perfectly fine (use it in portrait stuff as well and eyes have been lovely sharp!). Maybe I was just lucky.

Using a 10-20mm Sigma at the moment and finding I have taken the 17-50mm out less with me.

Features are nice...my last camera was the T3i. Has all id need till I could ever afford a full frame ha. Wish there were more sensitive AF points...but for around 600GBP its all you can ask.
I think I wouldnt want another ASP-C sized sensor body for a long while (till I snap the screen off stupidly...which it wont as it feels sturdy enough) or the shutter dies.

Any tips on black and white conversions?! I created a preset that was used on all of the above but just wondering if anyone could suggest any tweaks... Maybe the blacks are muted a little too much?
