I just purchased a 5D 3 today.

Congratulation!

I was in the store in Osaka and testing D800, which only have 28-300 (Nikon version ;)) on the camera.
Thinking I'll have to be extra extra nice to my wife if I get a Nikon :D So I walk away with a Zeiss :)

Canon 5D3 + Zoom (EF 17-40L, 24-105L & 28-300L, 100-400L II) & Prime (24L II, 85L II, 100L, 135L & 200 f/2.8L II; Zeiss 1,4/35)
Sony α7r + Zeiss 1,8/55 FE
Nikon Coolpix A; Nikon F3 & F100 + Zeiss 1,4/50

Thanks. I tested the camera and it's not bad. I just wish the MP count was a bit higher. :)

I'd wait. Way overpriced right now. Get some good glass instead.

^Not if it's $2500-$2600. ;)

I REALLY love my 5D III. I love the silent shutter mode! It made my previous 5D II felt like a Rebel body. :D

My current glass is enough for me :)

But yes, I'm waiting for the price to come down, since it seems to have gone back up a bit ($3k for body now).

Ions, the price is now at $2975.00 USD when you drop it into the B&H cart. I'm not sure if that's a price you're looking to spend. :)

I wouldn't try talking you out of it, unless it's either the camera or food. And I don't about you, but I could stand to eat less ;)

This thing needs to get to 2500$. It's so pricey but it is such a big improvement over the 5D2. There's really no reason to not want it besides the price.

I'm aware of the current prices. Still too much. A consistent low $2k and I'll consider it. This camera should not be more than a D800.

I can afford the 5DIII (barely), and it is the only body which at this time, provides everything I am looking for in spades.

If you can barely afford the body, what's your plan for lenses. It's likely your lens kit will be unsuitable. If they are EF-S, they won't work at all. If they are EF they will all effectively be 60% wider/ shorter.

I would suggest looking at the 7d which will accomplish what you want without changing lenses.
