Drag race photographers seem to be getting outpaced by other genres. Thought I'd try to catch us up a little.

Camera was placed on the race track for this image.

This "artsy" one was an accident, as most of my artsy pictures are, because I find the mode dial on top of the 7D is easy to bump to a different selection in the heat of battle or while you are waiting around for the battle to begin. It was bumped from manual to, I believe, aperture priority or some other setting I rarely use. The flash froze it and I waved the camera around just right to get interesting streaks. If I could hold a camera steady, it would have been a real stinker. As it is, I don't mind it at all.

It's pretty much shooting blind. I tried using live view a few times. I could get the image composed, but focus was an issue. Shortly after I started doing this, I saw it done in National Dragster – those copycats!;) (Just joking.)

Definitely my favorite drag photo I've taken.

Since this came back, I'll post another. This is what you don't want to do when you are drag racing.

And Fuel Harleys - what's not to love about these bad boys?

Scott Palmer - Top Fuel in the dark. (not really - the flash didn't fire. I've discovered that radio remotes don't work reliably when the car has dual mags.) I don't get to shoot a lot of nitro, so I'm a little rusty.

Man, I really dig this one. Love the low perspective. I really like how you can see down the length of the track. Excellent shot. :)
