Im after some info / advice please.

Just sold my 400d body and kit lens, and want to upgrade. Still have my 75-300 IS USM lens.

Im after a camera with faster FPS and a more semi pro feel to it. I take aviation and hope to start motorsport, so wanting something a bit faster. I do also take portraits and landscapes.

I had years of fun out of my 400d and was sad to see it go, but upwards is the way.

Now the short list is,

Canon 40d (nice and cheap and can spend some money on more glass)
Canon 50d (can just get the body)
Nikon D300 (will be body only and have to start from sctach with glass)

have about £300 to spend on a body.

So any help please. :)

I owned a 50d, a significant upgrade from the 400d, and think you'd be happy with it. I used it for occasional motorsports and it seemed fine. The lens I used was the 70-300 you have, and found it adequate. There's other gear that may be more ideal, but this should certainly work for you.

Do you have the 70-300 (non-L) or the 75-300 lens? From what I've read, there is quite a difference.

I mis-read the "75" in the original post - I assumed the 70-300 IS USM (non-L), which is what I have. Yes, there's a big difference from the 75-300 (which I also owned at one time, and didn't find as horrible as some people say it is.)

Yer I have the older 75-300 is usm non L lens. It gets bad reviews, but I found it a nice lens plus I only paid £75 for it.

I found a 40d with 3000 accuations all boxed and mint for £245. Might buy it.

I have a 40D, I've had it for three years, it's a great camera. I might upgrade in a year or two, only because I want to, not because I need too. -rick

I have had a 50D, it really was a great camera. I have however gone back to a 40D as my backup though and believe it or not I prefer the 40D images. It does not have some of the bells and whistles of the 50D but is still a very capable body.

I went from a 400D to a 60D. It was a fantastic upgrade for me... A 50D should be nice too.
