It was a dark dreary day, but had to try out my new 300 f/4L IS. Looks like a got a good copy-these are not great, but I think shows the potential of this lens when I get used to it and check out the MA. And get some light. These are hand held w/ fill flash.

Very nice, Rog. Are you using a better beamer with your flash?

All I want is just a little more than I'll ever have.

I didn't on this series-was fairly close. Thank you for the kind words.

Excellent shots, Rog. Big congrats on the new toy. It's a superb lens and you'll love it. It's my favourite bird lens. Don't be afraid to use it wide open. The glass is good enough for it!

Thank you, Levina-good to hear from you. Checked your gear to see if you had the 400, too, and happy to hear you prefer the 300-I agonized over the two for a good 2 months. AND...think you added a third body to your arsenal. I'm so jealous! You go, girl.

Thanks much, Jeremy. As I'm typing this, I see the sun trying to peek thru the clouds, so maybe I'll get to that combo sooner rather than later.

Rog, I too struggled a long time between the 300 and the 400. I went with the 300 and it's ideal for my city birds. I use it with my 1.4x Kenko TC often and with very good results.
I did buy the 400 a year later, specifically for when I get out of the city and need more reach. Unfortunately I hardly ever leave the city and when I do 400mm is not nearly enough reach, also not with a TC. So the 400 sits on a shelf most of the time which is a pity. So I am now actually considering selling it and buying the Canon SX50 HS instead. It's an excellent little camera, has incredible reach and is much lighter and easier to bring along on my very cool Italian Scooter!

And yes, I bought a 1D Mark IIN a while back. :) Heavy as hell, but a great camera!

Anyway, congrats again and if this test run is anything to go by, I think we can expect some great images from you with this lens!!

Think you ought to post a pix of you and that scooter-hee, hee. And think I was "traveling" w/ you when you got the ID Mark-guess it's the 5D I didn't remember you having, just the 40D. Anyway.
Yes, those superzooms are tempting-been thinking about 1 of those for my wife but to be honest, it would probably be more for me than her. Kenn3D and his wife sure put out awesome shots w/ those.

Very nice Rog... the 300 is an excellent lens and it looks like you have a great copy...

I use mine a lot lately on the "bleak" dark days when my 400 is inappropriate for the conditions... plus I find ( for an old guy who likes to stand vertical ) is is a wonderful macro lens... I use it all the time for wildflowers, butterflies and a host of other shots... good shooting.

Dave
