I got the DTSE grip. the joystick already broke off by the 2nd night I used it.

Mine also broke off, sometimes I can push it back in place. Poor quality control on the joystick.

Yeah.. Grip itself isnt so bad other then the joystick problem. I just contacted DTSE and sent a picture of it.. lets see what they do.

For those that ordered the Meike Grip from Amazons vendor DSLRkit, how long did it take for you to get the Grip after placing your order?

12 days. order Nov 4, arrived today, Nov 16.

So far so good. Not sure I can stand the added weight and bulk, but definitely like shooting in portrait more.

Anyone with the L bracket for grip, does the bracket make it a pain to shoot handheld in portrait? I'm interested in a kirk l bracket - I have one for the non-gripped 5d3 and love it - but have never shot with a grip and L bracket before. Seems like the bracket would get in the way?

The bracket will not be in the way. It adds weight but it fit inside the curve of your palm that you wouldn't notice it.

I got the MeiKe for my 40D and it has lasted over a year so far no issues. Also got 2 no name batteries that last just as long as the Canon branded ones. The MeiKe even went through 16 months of Afghanistan heavy use so. No issues from me.

If anyone was thinking about getting a Pixel Vertax for their 5D Mark III, I'd avoid this seller on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com …ef=oh_details_o00_s00_i00 (external link)

I ordered this and was shipped one that's identical to my Meike grip. In other words, it's not a Pixel brand, and has the plastic anchor in the base instead of the metal plate. Very upset right now.

dave_p - I purchased a grip from this seller as well. Amazon, at the time had two listings for Pixel grips, one listed as "Vertax" and the other is the one you listed, note no mention of Vertax in the title. I purchased both to be safe.

I can also confirm that the grip sold from Eynpire Camera via Amazon is IDENTICAL to the Meike photos here. Even the rubber grip is identical, as both are finer than the Canon. This one also has smooth plastic.

The second one, listed as Vertax, came in a different box and looks exactly like how the grip looks on the Pixel HK page and the Pixel thread here. Metal tripod base, rough finish to match the 5D III, and ON/OFF switch is on the face of the grip, not the side.

I don't know if the one identical to the Meike is "fake" Pixel or if it's the improved version of the grip addressing the old battery drain issues, and just so happens to be manufactured at the same factory as the Meike grip. I'll post photos.

I use the Vello BG-C9 Battery Grip for Canon 5D Mark III from B&H

http://www.bhphotovideo.com …o_BG_C9_Battery_Grip.html (external link)

Metal plate inside with a metal tripod piece

Used the grip quite a bit with no problems - joystick is still strong
