I will shoot portraits and family pictures, my wife and I just got a baby girl and I was planning on buying a 5d after seeing some wonderful baby pictures shoot with a 5d. Will it be too slow to shoot kids???

Look through this thread to see examples of what the camera can do. Also, CLICK HERE for links to the five previous 5Dc threads with tons more photos to look through. It's a great camera, particularly at the price it's going for now.

Congratulations!

You"ll need to learn about timing and kids. It takes some time.

Thanks! I guess I will have to practice a lot. It just worried me a little, even pro photographers were complaining about it.

thanks st3mpy, I also have a shot of her in B&W on the previous page, in case you didn't already catch it.
I'm really enjoying the ef 35 2.0 (old version), by the way :)

I'm currently looking at some 5D's in my area for sale, I was wondering if there are certain serial numbers to avoid, and as for shutter actuation's is the only way to get that number by sending the camera to Canon? What firmware should it be running? Any hints on finding a good body is appreciated.

I really liked my 5D Classic when I bought it in February (changed over from Micro 4/3s), but I've recently bought a Canon 35mm 1.4 and 135mm f2, and now I absolutely love it.

Yes, shutter actuations can only be accurately provides by Canon. The firmware is version 1.0.1 I believe and you're looking for a camera that preferable has the mirror fix done. Don't worry if the mirror hasn't been fixed yet, Canon will fix it for free. Just try and find a body from a honest person and make sure that it hasn't been dropped and you should be fine.
