I believe the 40mm pancake lens is meant to autofocus while using video?

I just got my Mark III and tested it out, but it doesnt seem to do it automatically.

Is there a setting im missing?

Im running latest firmware 1.1.3

it will only for work for the 650D (and i'm not sure if the EOS-M can too)

but the 5D3 is not included.

And from what I heard, it's not groundbreaking AF either on the current supported bodies.

This lens was designed specifically for the new T4i/650D which has the built in functionality to use this lens for smooth auto focus while shooting video. That body is the only one that currently supports this functionality on the new 18-135mm STM and 40mm STM lenses. Not even the newer than new 6D supports it. While it works, the new lens/camera combination is still not a mature solution and for some shots manual focus will still give better results. However with regard to your situation, if that's the only reason you purchased this lens. I'm afraid you're out of luck.

I believe the functionality is only enabled on Canon Bodies with the special phase detect af pixels on its sensor using STM lenses. The T4i/650D and the EOS M are the only Canon bodies to incorporate this sensor at the moment.

While it was designed for the specific bodies of the 650D and EOS M it does still AF quieter than most of the other lenses available and you hear less AF noise on the recording. It's not very fast on the 5D3 for focussing though and most of the time I manually AF with it.

Even on the 650D it's performance isn't stellar. It seems slower to AF than some of my other lenses but it is quieter and eventually it's accurate, but I wont be going out of my way to get any more STM lenses until the technology is improved.
