Two nights ago, taken with a EOS-M + Canon 500mm F8 FD reflex + adapter.

This is a single shot, 1 of 16 and will stack with REGISTAX soon. NO PP applied. 100% crop.

I am particularly pleased that a $300 ebay, 30 year old lens can produce better results than my 70-200L II and 70-300L, and with a point and shoot sized camera too !

Last late afternoon, EOS-M + 500mm reflex. A little PP as these day shots are quite washed out - was very low contrast SOOC. 100% crop.
I will do this one again soon.

EOS-M + Canon 500mm F8 FD reflex + adapter on a SACHLER FSB-6 head and Manfrotto 536 CF legs.

Those CF legs are rock solid, and makes focusing on the moon @ 10x a breeze. Also best to have the spikes out on solid ground, and a hanging heavy bag is a little better too.

I was out today looking for birds and got this. It is a crop from full frame and 500mm L and with some PP.
There was some atmospheric haze.

Canons to the left, Canons to the right,
We hold our L glass toward the light,
Digitizing in a snap reflective glory
That will forever tell our imaged story.

Man - I love that Sachler FSB-6 Head, absolutely worth every cent. Video pans are silky smooth and better than butter - pure class. Panning distant planes @ 500mm (x1.6 crop) is easy.

3x variable drag on bath pan & tilt and variable pre-load balancing to 6KG . Can turn the pan drag off and spin it. The illuminated tilt bubble is worth the money alone. The plates are super long, to balance anything, infact, I cut the longer 'dslr' plate shorter (standard plate in this photo).

Those Manfrotto 536 CF legs are rock solid, with a 100mm bowl (I am not using an adapter for the 75mm head) and extend 203cm, making the centre of the lens 230cm max, great for getting over the crowds. I like to set up @ the back of the crowds now - adds some interest. This is the best combo for DSLR video IMHO, and not too heavy either. The only negative, is no portrait orientation with most lenses.

I have over balanced on my portable stool, fast panning video @ an air show, and grabbed the tripod to stop me falling, and still got the shot with minimal shake.

I did write before that: "... I like to stop down to achieve the sharpest image (F5 to F8 on most lenses)..."

You can find the sharpest aperture for most lenses @ PHOTOZONE http://www.photozone.de/all-tests (external link)

If you want to focus to infinty (this is a moon thread after all...) then you need a FD-EF adapter, however whilst plentiful on ebay, the FD glass is designed to focus further back than your 5DIIs' sensor - so the adapters have a PQ robbing glass element, eg http://www.ebay.com …Tubes&hash=item1c2c3050ba (external link).

Plenty of people have changed the actual FD mount on these lenses to a EF mount, and infinity focusses fine. There are some 'reflex' and 'mirror' threads on POTN (on my other PC - will post links later). I am considering openening up my 500 F8 (gasp...) and removing some material from the focus stop, so the barell turns a little more, and I can then use it on my 60D with a simple metal FD-EF adapter. I use my metal FD-EF adapter, the this lens works fine on my 60D, but will not focus past about 150m.

The EOS-M removed the mirror, so that there is a big gap between the back of the FD glass and and the EOSM body - in my instance, this gap is filled by this high quality Kipon FD-EFM adapter as seen in the photos in this trhead http://www.ebay.com …Tubes&hash=item1c2d20a19d (external link)

A better bet for EF / EFS users may be use a NIKKOR reflex lens, and a simple Nikon to EF adapter (with AF comfim too) and focus to infinity. The Canon, Nikkor, Tamron & Minolta reflex were considered the best, and the other brands are worthless (just paraphrasing what others have said on the web). The Nikkor, Tamron & Minolta can focus to infinity with a simple adapter.

here's my first attempt - shot using a 400mm f5.6 + 2x teleconverter on a 5d3 in Cumbria, Northern England.

Feedback, c&c would be welcome as hoping to have a second try tomorrow... it's been tricky today because of scattered cloud cover but fairly pleased with how this came out. Did a rough focus by hand through live view then did my best to fine-tune using a tethered laptop.
