Down. The 5DIII is just going to keep coming down in price from now until it gets discontinued, its the way electronics work.

Canon did so on November 1, 2012. Google it. Crazy!

I realize it's old school, and past history but the Hasselblad film cameras actually kept creeping up in price.

I think it has also to do with which currency you are looking at. Like here in Australia all camera gear is now 30 - 40 % "cheaper" compared to some years ago because of the strong Ozzie dollar against the US$, Euro and Yen. When the US$ would drop against other major currencies - because of the fiscal cliff effect - prices in the US might go up. But who can predict the currency market wouldn't need to worry about prices anyway... :)

I was thinking more about Canon and how they might think that the firmware update will make it a 'better' camera and therefore do something price wise.

i bought my first 5dmk3 kit for $3900 in July. I just bought another one in Nov for $3500. If i waited couple more days and lived in a state with no amazon taxes i would have got that kit for $3300. i dont need to google anything.:D

who cares what canon did, price of 5dmk3 is going down. you can easily pick body for $2700 now from authorized dealer. this with MAP pricing.

I"m sure over the next 3 years the 5D Mark III will keep coming down in price to a certain point. At point i'm sure is known by canon. But like any business they want to make the most money. The 2700 they pay today for the 5d mark III will seem like highway robber i'm sure in 5 years lol. (or maybe not how camera prices are going with canon)

It will be interesting (and relevant?) to see where the D600 price lands after the $1996.95 kit promotion.

I think it will probably stay at the current price levels. But it's such a fantastic camera, I would just pick it up when you have the funds.
