I just got the Canon 24 2.8 IS and the first impression is positive. Here are two pics I took with the Canon and the Zeiss 21 2.8.

They are both taken at f/11 and I tried to match the white balance and exposure as close as possible. I also cut a part of the Zeiss pic so they have a similar frame. Shoot RAW, imported in Lightroom and exported at 80% JPG.

Nothing else was done. Do you see the difference between the two shots ? Which one is the Zeiss shot and which one is the Canon shot ?

If I knew what the aperture blades were that red bokeh ball would give the lens away!

I like #2 better

Forgot to take it out, but hey the game is about guessing :)

I wondered since I changed the flower position a bit, are people impacted more by the composition of the flower than the lens rendition.

Unfortunately I see EXIF when I move my mouse over the image, so I couldn't help it.. I love the Zeiss microcontrast, but Canon is getting impressive with these new lenses.

You can download some exif addon for firefox. That's what I use.

Just look at the red bokeh ball in the background, HUGE difference.

Also less CA on the Zeiss.

The differences are subtle, but that's exactly what separates a great lens from a good one. ;)

Exposures seem totally different in these. Unless all things are equal, trying to compare is futile.

Canon has some nasty angular bokeh circles. I do like the Zeiss rendition better. But really for the price I'll probably take the Canon. They're nearly the same.

I like No. 2, I think that is the Zeiss. I could not see any exif data. Which one is which?

It's not a photo until you print it!

1 is zeiss. Just look at the red bokeh ball, no 1 is more circular.

Also check the top part of the picture, less/minimal CA on no 1.

Yeah but the background is more pleasing with the Canon. Probably because of the 24mm vs cropped 21mm.
