I've both, the softbox and the Varos.
In that case, being inside the softbox, you have to put the flash in manual mode (but still controllable from camera), because the IR led assist would not measure the exposure correctly for that flash.

This is why I wonder why to even bother with these as I never shoot bare flash. I usually always have some sort of light modifier which kills the ettl. I would think many are doing the same thing. What modifiers are people using to keep ettl working?

ETTL measures exposure THROUGH THE LENS regardless of whatever modifier is in front of the flash. ETTL will work whether you have a softbox, umbrella, grid, gel or tupperware. The flash fires an ETTL pre-flash at 1/32 power and uses that information to figure out how much more (or less) flash power is needed based on the scene and your ratio/FEC settings.

I'm sorry I don't understand why you use theme i'n manual mode.
I thought with 622c you can do anything from camera.

Ciao zulu from Milan :D
guarda che ha scritto che puoi controllarli in manuale anche dalla macchina ;)
Se devi fare un certo tipo di lavoro la potenza la decidi tu, non puoi lasciare che la macchina controlli la "tua" luce...

Translation:
Hi Zulu from Milan :D
the user wrote that you can still control the power of your flashes on camera.
If you have to do some kinds of photographic job, you want to decide the power of your light and dont let your camera controls "your" light...

If your flash has menu items that show in the external speedlite menu on the back of your camera you should also have access to those features via the 622c interconnection between the flash and camera.

If those capabilities include manual control then you will have that capability from the camera external speedlite menu. I know I can do that with both 600EX-RTs and Nissin Di866s on my 5DIII and could also do it via the 5DII.

And also on the 7d.
Works with Metz 50-AF1 flashes flawlessy.

Did anybody noticed a buzz noise from the 622 when communication between trasmitter and receveirs are occurring?

Yes. A very slight 'zzzzzzz' - so quiet that you need to actually listen for it, certainly not disturbingly noticeable.

Yes it's very quiet.
I was checking the AF assist beam: it's very effective, let me focusing in total darkness!
I'll use it as AF assist on my 7d and 5d...even if I have not to use any flash.

Yep, I have been using the AF assist on my 5D MK2 even though im not using flash. It helps tremendously to nail down focus.

Care to post an example of what kind of light you were able to get with the YN-622C and AB800 combination??? (Good bad or indifferent it might help someone decide)

Regards,
