Has anyone got the CF Type II Adapters to work with a 53 yet, i heard there is a way to manipulate the card physically so it fits, true?

Happy holidays Capn :D. What exactly is that? I have the old 5Dc and will be moving to the Mark 3. Does this involved older CF cards?

Yes - curious about what you are trying to do with the 5D 3? Are you trying to set things up so you can use SD cards in the CF slots?

i got the eye fy card, and the extreme CF adapter, but its type 2, too big for the mk3

i was hoping there was a mod to get it to work so i wanted to ask here to see if others mkiii people tried this set up, which allows you to use the CF slot and the SD slot as well for a second back up card

Well, the 5DIII does specify that CF Type 2 will not work. Type 2 is 5mm thick, while Type 1 is 3mm thick. Seems that shaving off 2mm of thickness is rather too extreme to assume it is possible.

I found this video about converting an adapter from the thicker Type II, to a somewhat thinner dimension (fatter than true Type 1 but apparently thin enough to fit in Type 1 slot.

umm ... why not use the Eye Fi in the SD card slot ? You will get the best performance from the Mark III by using the CF card slot and populating it with ... shocker .. CF cards.

lol bw!
I spoke a bit too soon, was excited,

i have a warning for anyone trying this, in the video here the guy has the chips covered with a plastic sheet, look at https://vimeo.com/30075882 (external link) 2:45 he explains that he left the plastic covering the chips and he claims it is there so his fingers do not touch them but in fact they will literally slip off from the pressure needed to insert this card into a 5D mkiii slot with out a plastic covering them.

I broke a chip off mine the SECOND TIME doing this while making a youtube video of how to, ehhhh, because i removed the plastic sheet i cut up to protect the chips, i got a photo

It's easier shooting a 64gb cf card and using the sd for the eye-fi, why risk damaging the cf slot or pins with something that is not designed to fit, bend a pin because of an alignment issue and it's and expensive repair.

64GB CF cards are way way over priced and dropping as we speak, your talking 250 bucks and up, but i agree for wedding or sports work, i need a CF card and so far the only one i am after is the Lexar 16GB 1000x

i already have the eye-fi (on its way actually) been using a friends, love it

(not to get off the topic of using CF adapters in a 5dmkiii) but for some odd reason the lexar 16GB cards seems to be the fastest CF card in the world atm, i tested allot out there and nothing shoots as fast, atleast on a 5D mkiii, and i shot over 500 photos with sand disk 16-32-64GB as well as lexar 8/16/32/64/120 and the 16 seems to have something the others dont, let me know if you did any tests, thanks for the advise

Rob Galbraith tests (unfortunately he no longer updates this database) show the Lexar 1000X 32GB CF at the top of the speed heap at 80.2MB/s for write speed of RAW files; the 16GB writes at 70.1MB/s

Lexar 1000x is real fast with Mk3. The 16gb one you showed in pic is having a good price balance currently.. Adorama used to have them for less than 70 earlier, but now at all place around 75 USD.
