As the tittle says, need help on a decision. I rebuilt my desktop but even with 4gb ram its still slow when editing under lr4 along with google chrome and other crap running. I got the bug about getting a laptop but I really hate using them or lugging them around. So I was told to consider a table. Being myself that I hate apple products and made the move to samsung galaxy 3 I considered the nexus 10. I have a new 2tb external harddrive but im reading the nexus dont have a full size usb port?? my biggest hold back from ordering is that if I can install Lightroom 4 on to it. I love lr4 so if I move away from desktop I would like to take that with me. Im not really a tech guy so I would like other opinions and see what are my best bets, that is if its possible.

Thanks in advanced, happy holidays.

There's no tablet, that I'm aware of, that's suitable for editing and will run Lightroom. Get yourself a real computer. I love my iPad, but only for email and surfing, no heavy lifting.

In a few months there will be a Microsoft Surface with Windows8 pro and Intel core i5 processor that will allow that. The current Microsoft Surface will not be able to run lightroom efficiently.

There are Windows7 Tablets but not popular. I think ACER has one and Samsung has one but not sure of the name.

I have a desktop thats semi updated but it still loves to drag at times. I had to put a new harddrive sata 10? Hd monitor, 4gb ram from 2 before, more cooling. Before it was so bad that I was mad one day and I went sammy sosa with a metal bat.:lol: if thats the case I think 450 would be a waste of money just to show nice pics. :(

Dammit. Was hoping it was possible with crack or some

I have also looked on the play store (app store) for Lightroom 4 app for android but nothing found. If there is a an app that I can buy thats just as good as lr4 I would reconsider it. I dont do much on lr other than sharp, crop, and just basic editing nothing too crazy.

There are tablets that can run Lightroom (regular Windows OS tablets) but theres not much to be gained. Samsung Galaxy/Google Nexus tablets do not run Windows or any other OS that you can install Lightroom on.

On your desktop, press the Windows Key and R at the same time and youll see the Run dialog box. Type in "taskmgr" without the quotes and click OK. Youll see the Windows Task Manager. Click the Performance tab and youll see to bar graphs and two line graphs. The upper ones are CPU usage, the lower two are memory usage. If the bar and line are up high you could be running low on RAM. I can easily hit 8GB of RAM usage with Lightroom going and a lot of Chrome tabs/windows. See if that is what is happening for you. Alternatively, is there a dramatic performance difference when you have only Lightroom open, nothing else?

You haven't said what CPU you have. Lightroom is really CPU dependant. 4GB of RAM is still lite, 8GB is ok, 16GB is better.

I suspect you need to get a new computer.

Here another one with google and lr4 running.

As I was opening it I saw a quick flash of a the old pics. Went on import files and there was 1200 edited pics from before. I selected them all and wiped them out and it seemed like it helped a bit. I hope they are still in my library the edited ones.

At the lower start bar on screen pressed right click+task manager. Not sure why but that worked fine with old windows xp but if I press that I get booted out of windows and goes back to where you put password then start the loading even though I have no password it still logs me out as if im going to switch users screen.

That brings up the task manager OK on my PC (win7 Pro 64-bit)

What operating system are you using? - the bottom of your second shot shows only 2046 MB of total physical memory

If you're running Vista or Win7 then 4GB isn't nearly enough RAM. You need, as others have mentioned a minimum of 8GB to be efficient.

Also the Surface tablet will acutally be coming in i7 and i5 with 16gb of ram but I wouldn't want to edit on one, especially for the price. Money better spent on a desktop or laptop.

25 chrome tabs using 25% of your CPU indicates lack of CPU power. I have 12 tabs taking 0% CPU. You still haven't said what type of computer/CPU you have, how do you expect help if you don't provide information?

I took 4gb of ram to get installed not sure why it shows 2 only. If there is a more specific way to check for things pkease do tell, again I dont really know my way on pcs. Shoot took me a while to learn how to get around lr4. Im willing to upgrade it a little more not sure what motherboard to get??

Your system does not recognize the 2GB memory module(s). That is one big reason why your system is slow. If you use 2GB x 2, make sure they are the same type of memory module.
