Big dreams, small wallet.

Under the Subway, up a slight hill, continue on to the right and you are onto our main street. Front Street, the street that started it all 100 years ago. The business section is a whopping 4 blocks long.
You should never shoot into the sun but I just keep doing it !
This little guy is tied at one of the near-by residences. He's able and loves to come out of the yard to greet passerbys... he looks a bit icy but didn't seem uncomfortable. Still, he was a distraction as I continued to photograph; thankfully he had been taken inside when I returned and I didn't have to go knocking on the owner's door as I have before! (I should mention that the owner is not neglectful of this cutie at all, I'm just a bit on the overkill side with pampering my animals!) I had a bit of a time shooting at a constant 50mm with Nifty today, I tend to want to go too close for this lens and end up not quite getting focus, as in this shot. I'm used to using medium zooms for walking around as well and felt I was always too wide or too cramped at 50mm. Good practice though. (I've rarely used my own Nifty.)
The good thing about a small town is that there is always a lull in traffic where you can step right out into the middle of the road for a better shot! (I cropped this one to an 8x10 ratio to get rid of the excess sky and road.)
I noticed the snow had been cleared off our little art gallery under the Subway so I strolled down there. This was installed in the Spring as part of the Centennial Celebrations and one of my favourites. The old pictures were reproduced and weatherized in collaboration with a local Artist-Photographer and depict some of the people and businesses who shaped our Town in the very early years. It's quite lovely, my images don't do it justice with the extreme lighting and reflection going on. On the opposite walls are other works of community art. My grandchildren missed out on this great Candy Store, but myself and my own children frequented it growing up here. The lady who owned and ran it has since died and sadly the store itself burned down only a couple of years ago... more than you needed to know, I know. ![]()
Regards / Pat
