In the UK, during the 1st of year of ownership of a new lens, if you don't think it's right (and assuming you've tried and failed to satisfactorily m.a. it) Canon will look it it for free and adjust it as necessary. This happened to me with my 400mm f/5.6 which I couldn't get right, Canon looked at it and 'recentred the element'. I was then able to m.a. it and now it's spot on. I'm going to have them look at my 35mm for the same reason after the holidays as the results I'm getting with it are inconsistant. The way I see it, if Canon calibrate the lens and say it's correct, then the owner m.a.'s it o their camera, if the results still aren't right then there's only one reason why...
