If you are going to be in the wilderness for an extended period of time (7-10 days), what do you do to charge your camera batteries? Also cell phones?

Solar power would be the best solution. You could also use a hand-cranked generator.

Battery Junction Is a reputable dealer. I have no association with them but have used them in the past. They may have what your looking for. I would call them after brousing their web site.

Why not a grip and some AA batteries ?

Use something like this http://www.amazon.com …attery+cell+phone+charger (external link) to charge the phone ( you might need to get a different one...)

To me, it'd be cheaper and lighter weight than a solar powered solution... Most solar powered solutions are gonna be costly-- panels, battery to charge during the day to, a separate 12V capable battery charger for the camera ( our local camera store carries these for about $20 )... A solar powered solution would cost several hundred dollars and wholly dependent upon the sun to charge... A couple of 36 pack of AA's would be simpler, perhaps lighter, and definitely cheaper...

7-10 days is not a big deal for batteries to last depending on how much you'll shoot.

I got well over 2000 shots out of my 60d with grip and 2 batteries. I didnt charge my batteries for weeks at a time.(LP=E6 batteries, same as your 7d and your 5d3). I now have a 7d and havent had to charge my batteries in over 2 weeks.

So, if you plan on taking thousands of shot in the 7-10 days then perhaps you could bring 4 batteries with you. If you charge them they will last quite some time depending on what batteries you use.

Totally agree. Unless you're constantly taking shots, just take a couple of extra batteries with you and you should be fine. No need to weigh yourself down with anything more than that.

When I'm away doing foreign motorsports events I simply take loads of AA batteries and my battery grip. Been caught too many times on a Sunday in the boonies with no possibility of recharging anything.

The last few posts are ignoring the cell phone charging issue brought up by the OP.

With that in mind, Check out the REI website. They have a number of solar/crank chargers listed that can take care of battery recharging. REI among other wilderness outfitters carry these things

Who needs a phone? Phone em when you get back home. Use the mobile as I do, as an emergency contact system only.

If you have cell service, then you're not in the wilderness, IMO

Last time I checked, 6 AA batteries only held only 50% of full charge of 2 LP-E6 batteries. (meaning at full charge, the remaining battery life is already at 50%)
