Hello,
what is your normal % that you give back to other schools or events that you have had gigs with.
If I do T&I work for a league I give back about 10% after net profit.
You can let them know that yo can give them the save rate that you give to all other schools, events ,etc.

good luck,
Joe

As many have already said, it sounds like a bum deal. As far as giving a kickback, my policy is that I'll do that but it doesn't hit my base profit because I simply raise my package prices to cover the extra expense. The base price is my money, if the school or team wants a cut, we'll simply raise the price by as much as they want. Obviously, if they get too greedy, high prices will cut into sales but a 10%-15% increase hasn't affected sales in my area.

Pretty standard in school photos to kick back to the school or PTO. 40% is ridiculous.

No way.

Lifetouch really has a strong hold in the school/church market. I rarely hear positive feedback from that company though. Hiring 'talent' at $10 an hour plus a few benefits truly makes them a profitable company.

Now they wanted to do 80/20, do you think it's fair now?

Also do you think we should split to 80/20 after taking off the printing cost?

If you deduct the printing costs, you will be revealing the costs to the PTA. Maybe an issue, maybe not.

I would do 80/20. I would adjust my price accordingly and deduct the donation to the PTA, so if I got orders, I think it could work. I would also try to push for a district-wide contract if that's possible.

Thanks Scull....

i'm leaning towards doing it. i'll make my decisions as soon as i'll hear some more approvals from our buddies here in POTN.

Do you have any idea of a school photography contract? I need to make one.

I'm not at home, so I don't know if I have one or not. I've never contracted with a school.

I use this:

Damn.. I had no idea school shooting was so shady and cut-throat.

Lifetouch just makes me feel dirty. I feel bad for those poor photographers.

i know... the thing is there's no guarantee if at least 50% of the parents orders. for that i'm rethinking.

Another approach I use is a sliding scale.
For total orders up to say $500, they get 5%. for over 500 it's 7.5% 1000 and above is 10% 1500 and above is....... and If I make $100K, They get $20K. That makes them pay attention!

I think may suit your needs the best if you really are inclined to take on this job. Makes no sense to hand over 20% if you may not even cover your costs. This gives them an incentive to push for sales as well.

Guys this is my proposed packages which they already agreed. Those are my shots too.

The Creative Imaging(competitor) promised the PTO a fix $575 only.

One of the cheapest packages is the E1 which is at $26bucks. There's 500 students. If at least 50% of them orders E1 (250 x 26 = 6500). 20% for them that means $1300. I'll get volunteers from the PTO so i don't need to pay someone else to assist.

Printing cost for E1 is $4.47

Do you think it's gonna work? What do you think?
