I'm not sure if this is the right section for this thread, but basically I am looking at picking up 135L but can't decide whether I want to buy it brand new for $900, or used for $800(that's the going rate). What do you guys suggest? Is it worth $100 more knowing you own a brand new piece of glass?

Also, Amazon is selling the 135's for $899. Has anyone found a better price on a new lens?

Thanks.

For $100 I'd just buy new....But it just depends on who's selling what 135L.

Between the two options you listed, I'd rather buy it new.

However, I would buy a refurbished when Canon has their 20% off deal (if you can get one while in stock) without any hesitation. Better than used, and cheaper. But you'd have to wait until the sale is going on. $900 for that lens is one of the best deals on glass in my opinion. It's my favorite lens. Pure awesomeness as I'm sure you already know since you already plan on buying it.

I would definitely buy new if they are only $100 apart. Worth that piece of mind to me and also would be getting the full year warranty from Canon. I've been looking to purchase this lens too and the $899 price is pretty near the bottom. Did see it for $875 couple of weeks ago but waited to see if it would go lower and it didn't. Still looking but starting to think it's going to be a mistake if I wait much longer because most sales will be ending shortly.

I agree, but depending on the item I could go 25% discount.

For what you described, go new - or wait for a better deal.

Never had any issues buying used here. Most got for $800 or so.

I've purchased used lenses before without issue but with just a $100 difference I would just buy it new. Plus most retailers have a 30 day return/exchange policy, so no worries if something does go wrong. You also get the warranty which is added security IMO.

I didn't want to pay $900 for new or $800 for a used one so I sat and waited for a deal I couldn't pass up and found one for $600 near new with box and everything. You should be ale to find a excellent used one for $750 if you can disipline yourself. If you find one for $800 you can always offer $750. BTW the price of the 135L normally is $1089, but with the rebates they have come down.

When facing the same choice I went with new because I could just go ahead and get it done on my schedule. I knew if I waited for a bargain it might take a bit of time and for a hundred bucks and a warranty I just made it happen.

You could drop a post on the WTB thread here and see what sell offers come your way, you never know. But yeah, $100 - I'd probably go new.
