I dumped my 35L for the Sigma... Actually have owned the 35L two different times. The Sigma is a better lens in multiple ways.

Build Quality
Sharpness
Lack of bokeh CA
Cost
Contrast at f/1.4

The only thing the 35L is better at is color rendition. But I thought the 35L had the best color out of any L lens I have used. So nice... But I have not had much time with the Sigma outdoors yet to really compare.

But yeah, no regret dumping the L for the Sigma. It is a better lens for less money. No brainer.

This is my first shot with the Sigma 35/1.4. I only had the Tamron 28-75/2.8 to compare at this moment. So, I shot with the Tammy trying to match the same shot. They came different, but good enough for government work. You be the judge:

Sigma 35/1.4 at f1.4

Just ordered mine!

Absolutely can't wait to get this lens and shoot with it.
All the sample photos I've seen look awesome.

Okay, so I just got a message that mine is waiting for me in the shop. I might actually buy it;)

So please talk me into it... Well, you see what I have and it's the 16-35 that is the only thing that's bothering me a bit. But yes, my original idea was to buy 16-35 for landscape and other wide angle stuff and to get a fast prime to go with it.

Seems it would fit quite well to my arsenal... what do you think?

Ah, yeah, the primary target is my 11 month old daughter indoors. I've been getting quite decent results with flash also (with 16-35) but still...

Well 2.8 is not 1.4 :)

Get it!

Well mine just arrived at the office... shame my bodies are 25 miles away :)

It feels like a beast though - so heavy and solid. And I love the aesthetic of a mostly matt black finish. It just feels and looks like a premium product. Can't wait to give it a test run later.

What Sirrith said....go for it. Something special about prime lenses and this one is fantastic.

^^^

I normally wait around 6 months before purchasing newly released glass regardless of the lab reviews, but it has been quite a long time since we have had this much positive consumer based enthusiasm for any single lens under 1K that i recall.

The center sharpness at f1.4 is really amazing. I remember how impressed i was the first time i shot the legendary Zeiss 21 Distagon at f2.8 and from what i have seen thus far in this thread and elsewhere this prime rivals some of the best.

IMO this Sigma wins the Award hands down for the " Finest Bang for your Buck " wide open f1.4 prime !

Regards, Ron ;)

Mine will be here Wednesday!

It'll be my first non IS lens (other than my UAW), which concerns me a little; I've come to rely heavily upon it.

At first, I quite did not see the difference with my Super Takumar 35/2. Then I went large and pixel peeping, noticed the bokeh, sharpness wide open and definitely the f1.4. For indoor, you cannot beat it. Unless Canon comes with a 35/1.2. Even for someone not used to the 35mm FL, once I put it on my 7D, it became a 50/1.4 much sharper and neat than the Canon 50/1.4.

I gotta say you guys are really making it difficult for me not to pull the trigger on this one!
I keep going back and fourth and was contemplating buying a 24-105 for versatility, or saving up for a 24-70mk2 for all around awesomeness! I already have a 50mm and don't know if the 35 would cramp its style but from the overwhelming praise and amazing photos I'm seeing i think I'm gonna get me an early birthday gift..
