I am thinking of buying this head but curious to hear from the people who own it? My other options are the Acratech V2 or a gimbal head. Please let help me deiced. Use a Canon 70-200 2.8 non and the 100-400

Mike

I am very happy with mine. No complaints. I love the lower profile (vs. Markins M10)

I have had a bh-40 for some years now. I got it for my light weight macro tripod (Berlebach mini), so the low profile was important to get as near the ground as possible. Once another photographer tried my tripod, he went on net and ordered the same tripod and the same ball head that same evening ;)

I have the lever release clamp, but actually I prefer a screw knob clamp. So if I should buy a new head today, I would get a screw knob release clamp. But this is just about personal taste.

I have used the ball head without any issue down to about -37°C (my Markins Q3T doesn't work at all in the cold).

It holds my 300mm/2.8 without problem, but if I should get a head for this heavy lens, I would get a bigger head.

Might want to give a look at the Acratech GV2 for the gimbal feature. With the lenses you have, it will work like a charm. It is so nice to have your "normal" tripod be able to go gimbal mode when you are shooting action.

I'm very happy with mine. Well made, strong and light weight. On my gitzo 2531 , a very light-strong combo.Holds my 5D2 and 70-200 no problem.

No complaints here. I've found it to be very well made, smooth operating, sturdy head. I use it on a 2 series gitzo and the pair is rock steady. I wouldn't hesitate to use it with the lenses you cited.

I was just thinking about the RRS you never see them for sale on the forums. This tells me a lot about how well they are made

One of my best photo purchases of all time! Not one second of buyer's remorse.
Easy to use. Solid. Reliable. Durable.
Did I mention it's easy to use!?!? And rock solid?
