Ok, I'm the presdent of a local chapter of Lions Club and we sponser a USAC Racing event. I can easy get my media credentials just on the note we sponser the full event. All Pictures will be delivered to the Lions Club.

My Question can I sell the pictures I take on my Personal web site to Fans, Race Teams, Ect..?? Any Advice would be of great help since this is the biggest event I've ever covered. What if I donate a % to the Club?

Thank you
David

I would say yes, seeing as how that's what I do. Especially seeing as how your target market are the people (drivers, teams, etc.) you are shooting. Where you might run into trouble is if you try to sell to others outside that market, and even that is rather vague. There is the argument that the sponsors and car manufacturer's could have issues with you selling to the general public without their permission first. But that is rare unless you are selling on major sites like Zazzle and CafePress. The big thing to make sure of is not insinuating you are anyway connected to USAC, or even the Lion's Club (unless you get permission first).

At least, this has been my experience.

Check with the track photographer, if there is one, as they often have exclusivity to sell photos at the track. Most don't like it when someone shows up for one event just to get material to sell. I'm assuming you're covering the event for the Lions club and getting photos to sell is not the main reason you're attending?

Yes I'd be shooting for the lions, so would it be a no no to self promote sales at all then? The lions own the land and pay the sanction fee to hold the event(Lions are not just a sponser, they run it all), so would it be the lions who supply the track potog or the race assioation?

I was under the impression this was at an existing track that operates weekly but it sounds like I'm mistaken in that assumption. Since you're part of the group that is running the event then you should be ok. It might be worth a quick check of the contract between the Lions and USAC to make sure there are no commercial rights clauses.

+1 on this.

As far as who provides a photographer, that all depends. Not all tracks have "official" photographers and not all organizations do either. Out here at my local track some of the organizers have photographers that follow them around from track to track. Some of the teams have their own. But at this time the track, itself, doesn't have an official photographer. Though I am in the process of hopefully changing that. There have been many events where there was no "official" photographer so I was the only one out there shooting.
