He/she .... ATE .... his/her tail?!?!??

Yep, stress related we assume. Crazy stuff. Started with intense licking of the tail until it was raw, we did what we could to keep it under control (no dice ... she is a cat after all), so she was put in a cone ... too small and she managed to gnaw all the day to the bone overnight.
Had to have the last inch or 2 amputated and she spent months in that giant dog cone. The penguin tape holds insulating foam on the edge, so she wouldn't do any damage by banging the cone edge on her tail.
We put up numerous safe spots in the house where she can survey the surroundings, she was on medication for a while.
She's fine now and seems unaffected other than a slightly shorter tail. She's been off the meds and out of the cone for a couple months and doing great. We're still very watchful, but it has been unnecessary. Crazy ordeal that was.

Aww! I'll bet! Poor thing! You'd think that would hurt and she'd stop ... ?? So glad she's alright :D

I'm sorry about your loss Kerry, I know how you feel. Your girl was a beauty. I hope she plays with other cats (like my foursome) at the rainbow bridge....

The new addition is surely cute....

If it's in focus, it's pornography, if it's out of focus, it's art.
