Hi,

I've been waiting for the price to drop on 6d but seems like it is going the other way; Is it normal for prices to go up with rebate offers?

Thanks!

:)

Canon seems to do that all the time. Price goes up, then a rebate is offered bring the price to about where it was before. People are tripping over themselves buying one before the rebates run out. Marketing is such an odd science. :)

Sounds normal.

Example of what I usually see:
If there is a $100 rebate for a lens, the reseller will raise the base price by $75 giving you a net savings of $25 with the rebate.

Usually how it goes.

It seems that like in the past, Canon cameras go back up in price after Christmas. Wait a coupla more months. Or you can just buy it and take pretty photos.

Actual deals (real savings) start popping up about @6 months after the release. Patience will pay off if you're not in a rush.

with it only being out for a month or so, sounds like we'll be waiting until summer to get a sizable price drop. Any idea on an average price drop 6 months in? say..20%?

"expire" don't be surprised if they get extended for a couple more weeks as that has been the current trend from canon

That will give me enough time to sell another lens, need some money to make the purchase.

I hope Nikon fixes their d600 soon, that might help with the price :)

Also be sure to add it to your cart to make sure that's the price. B&H has it listed at $2099 but when you add it to cart it's $1999 (with no clear indication of a price change except for the fact that the cart popup indicates a $1999 price tag and something that says 'Please note the current low price'.

Canon now forces the retailers to now market the cameras at list prices (called MAP, started in Nov), and not at the competitive prices. They have to be creative in how they market the real street price to the consumers now. So advertised will be what Canon requires, but add to cart could lower the cost...

A Canadian retailer has body only for $2099 on the site but when you add it to the cart it's $1890. It's been hard holding back on that checkout button.

If you're certain on purchasing the body sooner or later, just buy it now.

Usually prices drop for Christmas then stay high for a while, that's just how the system is set up such that companies are trying to meet year end sales goals and get Christmas volume. Some credit cards were giving 5% cashback, those are probably gone till next Christmas. You can probably still get a good price, but it takes patience, they seem to come around once a quarter or so.
