It should not matter that you bought at different locations if both are within warranty period. I would definitely send to Canon so both the body and lens are repaired properly. Then when you get the lens back take those screws, remove them, and replace with a very small amount of clear nail polish. That was the trick used in the old days for people that travelled extensively on planes. High frequency vibration tends to loosen small threaded fasteners.

I wonder if the brass mount of even the least expensive Sigma lenses should be considered a plus?

Thanks for all the replies, i contacted canon thru their email based tech support. In doing so i had to go back and get the invoices for the lens and camera. Camera less than 2 weeks old and the lens was purchased december 6th. To everyone who suggested point up while applying pressure downward, ive tried it all , and its not going to budge at all, im afraid ill snap the camera mount off. If canon's customer service gives me trouble i will be extremely pissed, considering that i just bought the camera... Im hoping they just exchange the camera for a new one since im sure whatever is jaming it up has probably caused damage to the camera mounts.

Normally when you buy a OEM accessories, you expect them at least to function.

Ill keep everyone posted...

Another way of looking at it is that they are functioning so well they don't want to you to stop them from functioning together.

Sorry... :)

Good luck with the warranty service, and don't be scared of demanding to speak to a manager if need be.

The jamming has probably not damaged the camera mount, it is pretty sturdy stuff. This is an issue with the cheaper plastic lens mounts and seems to affect the 50 more than the 55-250.

Canon should fix it for free, there is no reason they should charge when both are under warranty.

I'm with you-OEM equipment should work(a FEW lemons happen with everybody of course). If this particular lens getting stuck is such a known issue it's funny they haven't bothered to fix it. I'd happily pay $10-$25 more for a lens that I can easily take off without damage when need be.

I just bought a 60D about 2 weeks ago and today i drove out to the city ( about an hour drive) to take some photos, well i put my Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Autofocus Lens onto the camera, well when i went to take it off it would NOT come off. Like i push in the "lens release button", and turn the lens about a quarter of a turn and it stops. I tried everything, trying to wiggling the lens while doing the quarter turn, pushing in on it while turning, pull out on it while turning ... NOTHING wont budge, i wanted to chunk this stupid camera into the pond. so is there anything i might need to do ? Has anyone had an issue like this? what was the solution? Im about to call canon... unless i can figure it out with the help of a fellow POTN memeber.

Thanks in advance!

lol, I feel for you. Hope you get it back quickly.

Wow, that sucks...

I was gonna say something stupid, like that's what happened when I first put my 17-55 on my at the time brand new 40D... the only reason it was stuck on my camera was because I didn't want to take it off...

Anyways... I hope you can get this fixed... is their a local canon office/store near you? If so, take it in and maybe a tech there can help fix it...

As long as one of them was under warranty, they would have resolved the issue for free. Much like stuck battery grips though, I can only see this ending poorly for the nifty 50

Send it to the newport news VA service center, they have been very fast for me. Like 1-2 weeks including the shipping time.

Once you get it fixed, I suggest that you do a simple 'mod' on the lens to stop it happening again. Remove each screw on the lens mount one at a time and then put it back in it with a small amount of nail lacquer on it. This will stop it vibrating loose in the future. Of course, you could just decide to sell the thing on fleabay and get a decent lens - and I wouldn't blame you!

Happened to me before! But I had dropped the camera and lens the previous day...

After trying pliers, I had someone hold the camera, whilst I used all my might to twist!

It worked, and I ended up having a broken mount on the lens, some superglue fixed the whole thing!

Saved me $100!

Sorry about your bad luck!

Cheers!

Other way around. Point the lens down, as if you were going to take an image of the floor.

Lock the lens back into position. Then while pointing down, wiggle it a little bit. Like you were trying to shake something to fall into a hole.

The gently, while pointing the lens at the floor, try to take the lens off the camera. As you turn the lens, pull it slightly away from the camera body, towards the floor.

Someone should post a video online.

I am assuming that you did not purchase the import or gray market camera and lenses.

If you did buy gray market, it might be an issue.
