Does anyone know if the new usb port from Sigma will adjust the auto focus speed and the ability to "lock on" better in lower light situations ie Friday Night Football ? The lens I'm looking into is the Sig 70-200 2.8 OS and from what I've read this lens is slower focusing and not as accurate as any of the Canon 70-200 2.8 lineup. But if these glitches can be ironed out with the usb cap I would likely get the sig.

The current information points to the USB dock only being compatible with the new Sigma lenses. At this point there are only the 17-70mm, 35mm, and 120-300mm. But, I do think that the AF software is able to tweak the AF parameters to be faster vs more accurate.

I don't think you'd be disappointed with the 70-200 OS at ALL, but the sigma usb port will not work on the 70-200 OS. The USB thing will only work with sigma's newest line of lenses(like the 35 1.4, upcoming 17-70 and 120-300).

I looked but only see the press releases with no pricing. It's also on their site here but again, no price yet.

Go to http://www.sigmaphoto.com/news/sigma-usb-dock (external link). It would appear that the ability to adjust focusing speed will only be in the lenses classified as "Sport" type, like the 120-300mm. The other class lenses can have focus adjusted for front back issues.

The likely reason the dock is not being bundled with a lens is only one dock will be needed for the entire line. Having said that it would not surprise me to at least initially see a bundled pair, perhaps an offering from a 3rd party like the big retailers (B&H, Adorama, Abe's, etc.).

I can't remember where, but I once read a sigma spokesperson saying something along the lines of "it won't be cheap"

I feel like I read it was going to be $179, but I can't find anything to support that now...

And how long before someone else reverse-engineers this dock and sells it for 1/2 the price?

From Sigma's web site (external link)

Compatible lens
Art | 35mm F1.4 DG HSM
Contemporary | 17-70mm F2.8-4 DC MACRO OS HSM / 17-70mm F2.8-4 DC MACRO HSM
Sports | 120-300mm F2.8 DG OS HSM

These lenses are all part of the Sigma new "Global Vision Line" and apparently the USB adapter is and will be compatible w/ all lenses in this line.

I haven't seen anything on price, but at the very least it will cost you the retail price of one of these lenses for it to even be necessary.
