Does anyone disclose to their clients where they get their prints from?

I'm asking because I use ProDPI, and this article was just published about them:

http://improvephotography.com …ts-best-online-print-lab/ (external link)

I'd like to try to use this article as a sort of marketing tool (sell more prints). Sound like a good idea? Or is disclosing this info considered a no no?

Do you think they would care in that detail? My guess is no. Just stress that you offer quality prints.

That's usually what I say too. I figure I could maybe put a blurb about it on my price sheet though.

"Our lab was voted 'best print quality' in a recent comparison" or something along those lines.

Not sure, just throwing ideas around.

You want your customers only interrested in what you provide them. Telling them about another company can lead to them being interested in that other company.

You really want them looking up the price the lab charges and then asking you why your charging $50 for a print that costs you $2 and trying to explain all about equipment costs, insurance, shoe leather etc??

If you do your a bigger glutton for punishment then me!

Other certain scenario is they will want the Digital files so they can send them to the lab themselves and get them done to save money.
That will be another explanation on your hands they won't buy into one bit.

From RDKirk: First, let me check the forum heading...yes, it does say "Business of Photography" and not "Hobby of Photography." Okay. So we're talking about making money, not about hobbies. By "business" I am presuming activities that pay expenses and produce a profit over the long term.

I've never had anyone ask. Only a family member asked once, and I told them. If you use a pro lab, then if you do mention it, let them figured out how to get accepted with a business account.

Like others have said I tell them I use a Pro Lab. As Glumpy said I don't want them seeing what a print costs me :)

First of all no. Secondly, that test has zero credibility.

when asked, I always answer that we use a few different labs depending on what's required, and how busy each lab is in order to get good quality and good turnaround...
they hardly ever push from that point on...

I agree with Fernando, that test proves nothing.

There are plenty of variables in printing that are not addressed by their testing methods. By their own admission not all papers and finishes could be the same. Not all could be printed with no color correction, and nothing was stated on ICC profiles and color space.

You can always get your own comparison images to show them. I used to have a board with the same three images from "Our Lab", Walmart, Shutterfly, and MPix on it. I have since switched labs and don't use it anymore, but it was handy.

I regularly use three labs, depending on the product I'm ordering.

I don't need my clients knowing my price of goods. I also wouldn't want them to know I used the "cheapest" option. We know the difference but do they?
