Only further supports my controversial stance this year of, any moron can buy a camera and call them-self a photographer, but it takes a lot of hard work, imagination and dedication to get the right shot quickly and under pressure.

Glasgow in the UK has seen a massive rise in people creating websites, and calling them-self a 'pro' You look at their pics and exif data, and you find out that epic portrait picture was actually shot using landscape mode and heavily edited in photoshop.

Makes me sick to my core. However my friends confuse jealousy with anger.

What's controversial about that statement?

I'd call it inarguable Gospel myself!

Any twit can get lucky, getting lucky consistently is a very different thing. Same as getting snapshots under perfect conditions and creating photos under less than ideal ones.

Perhaps people make out you're jealous to hide the fact your statement makes them feel threatened?

From RDKirk: First, let me check the forum heading...yes, it does say "Business of Photography" and not "Hobby of Photography." Okay. So we're talking about making money, not about hobbies. By "business" I am presuming activities that pay expenses and produce a profit over the long term.

I don't think this one can even spell Photoshop. Sad. My girlfriend saw the ad and said "Obviously this person has a mental diability or something" and felt very sad for this poor girl.

I had not thought of this myself, and if that is the case, I too am sorry for mocking what might be an artistic endevour encouraged by a loving and supportive family... with even worse eye for photography skills!

I'm so bad.

Well, all working pro photographers in northern Michigan are sure to take a hit with the incredible talents of this kind of competition! All I can say is "Wow."

Ya gotta love that nice open air studio too, really nice for shooting nudes in the middle of winter, I'll bet that really perks thing up a bit.

Even though it's probably fake, it still gave me a chuckle. It's also funny that some people with a camera feel so threatened by other people with a camera.

I know I feel no threat as I am a rank amateur only and have no plans of opening my own Pink Mustang-like business! Ill stick with my wastewater gig since the competition in the Poo business is far less competetive!

I wish I could find a woman like that to hang out with. When I saw the pics my first thought was "Cherry Schnapps".

I'm bad too.

Pink Mustang Photography - quite a name. My personal favorite is picture of the deer with the tree in focus. Fantastic work!

LOL!!!!

I don't think it's fake--unfortunately. The Pink Mustang lady can't write, either. It's a blatant case of the Dunning-Kruger effect (external link). People who have very poor skills in some area tend to be unaware that they do.

No comment on the pics, but what I've realized is this: any industry has folks of all levels come in if that industry does not require any sort of license (martial arts is the same as photography, any guy with a fight is trying to open a gym... and anyone can hop in there and get a fight, even with no prior training)

But what is painfully obvious is not only do these folks know little about the skill set of the field they are trying to enter, but their business knowhow is bismal, and far worse then their technical skill set. They will attract the clients none of us want, and that's the clients with no $ who have an attitude that will run off good paying clients... I love having competitors like this up the road from me. If we get a prospect that is not fit for us, or someone we know can't afford it, or who has a problem attitude, we simply refer them. Afterall, they are more trouble than they are worth, so I'll let them be trouble for someone else...

I LOVE learning something new! Heck, I know dozens of people who are suffering from this! Now I can go tell them about their affiction ;)

In IT, I cite the Dunning-Kruger effect article on wikipedia at least 3 times a week.

This Dunning Krueger effect, I've seen it so many times in MMA... but in #4 it mentions folks will recognize their inadequacy IF exposed to skill training! What accounts for those who DO NOT recognize their inadequacy when exposed to skill training? b/c goodness knows I've seen a ton of those folks as well... they are usually the ones who quit and still suffer the illusion that "it's everyone elses fault"
