My guess is it would also be twice as expensive so it might put it at around $600-700.

Well at least I saved a 100.00 bucks, I'm sure I'll enjoy it as it will probably be my most used walk around general lens.

No, it's not the same. We lose some magnification on the macro side. But the new lens includes FLD and SLD glass which the old one didn't. It's not the same lens optically.

It's good to see the new lens will have the USB dock feature. That could come in handy.
