I am currently about to switch from a D90 and go back to Canon, I thought I would give Nikon a shot and I have no complaints.

The reason I am doing this is because I just miss the way Canons are built and the overall feel of them.

I am considering a 50d or a 40d to get me started back into Canons but I can really decide.

I mostly shoot automotive, portraits, landscapes and wildlife.

So I am mainly looking for which one will give me the better IQ

In the past I have owned a rebel xt, 30d, and a 1d mkii

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Aaron

Aaron, get a Canon 5D classic. It is an incredible camera. The prices are dropping so low. The IQ is truly stunning. Forget the marketing yaya about the mark 2 and 3.

1Ds (Killed by bird crap), 5d2 (never to be taken apart!), 300d IR (fianlly put it back together), 35L, 40mm pancake, 85mm 1.8, Tamwrong 28-75 2.8 (really good lens!) and a load of spare parts!

Think twice, do you need how camera feels or how pictures looks like.

Have to agree here. Do you just "miss" the Canon ergonomics, or do you really have troubles shooting with the Nikon? I assume you've given it enough time to familiarize yourself to the Nikon, and are at least getting used to it? If you've just switched, and are regretting it, or like Canon glass better, then it sounds like a legit reason. Switching is costly.

I miss Canons egronomics and their glass. Ive hand the nikon long enough to know its functonality I just dont enjoy shooting it as much as I did when I owed Canons. I have hardly anymore invested into my nikon(just one lens) so I figure now is the time to deal with this decision before I have too much into Nikon equipment.

I would say a 40D or 5DC, used 40D's can be had for around $300-350 body only. If you want to go full frame the original 5D is going for in the $600-700 range and gives you a few more MP.

The 5D will give you the best IQ, I think the 40D IQ is slighly better than the 50D at higher ISO's but I don't think the difference is dramatic.
