Was anybody shooting yesterday from up on Cypress? Wondering if the fog formed a shallow enough blanket. My sister-in-law took a pretty nice shot with her camera-phone from Metrotown so I'm curious.

I was about to go but got lazy

Recently I purchased the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 and Sigma 85mm f/1.4 lenses and I've been testing them out a lot taking pictures around the home, and random people. I figured I'd post the random people shots in here since they're all urban shots from downtown.

I went on a walk-about downtown the other day at lunch time and I headed to a popular tourist spot to blend in with the other cameras so I didn't stick out so much. I took a bunch of shots of random people around the convention centre.

These are all from the 85mm, so here are the few that I did like from my walk:

1)

Yesterday I walked to the Art Gallery to take some pictures of random people to further test out my Sigma 85mm, and here are the ones I liked the most.

1) My friend didn't have sunglasses on in the bright sun! I like the BG separation here.

IMAGE: http://www.millionflame.com/photo/Reviews/Sigma85/IMG_2401.jpg

2) This guy was funny in the way that he thought I was with the press and kept talking to me telling me about his "message" until I told him I'm just some random dude. Then he walked away.
IMAGE: http://www.millionflame.com/photo/Reviews/Sigma85/IMG_2412.jpg

3) She was some sort of 9/11 conspiracy crier.
IMAGE: http://www.millionflame.com/photo/Reviews/Sigma85/IMG_2420.jpg

4) He looks lonely here.
IMAGE: http://www.millionflame.com/photo/Reviews/Sigma85/IMG_2430.jpg

5) I thought the girl in the red was sitting in kind of an awkward-cute way.
IMAGE: http://www.millionflame.com/photo/Reviews/Sigma85/IMG_2446.jpg

6) My "buddy" again.
IMAGE: http://www.millionflame.com/photo/Reviews/Sigma85/IMG_2483.jpg

7) I shot a small burst on this guy who was running fairly fast on the sidewalk.
IMAGE: http://www.millionflame.com/photo/Reviews/Sigma85/IMG_2500.jpg

8) I took this because she's pretty and caught my eye!

Great shots ! I have to take a try at some street photography, my new 70-200 should make it fun ! Just need to get the nerve to shoot strangers.

I have been thinking about taking some shots of the mountains, either Baker or the North Shore, anyone recommend good vantage points ?

Shooting strangers is hard for sure, but if you go to high traffic areas or tourist spots you're less likely to draw the ire of someone. Plus, it's not illegal to take pictures in public so no one can really say anything anyways.

A couple cool locations to shoot Mt. Baker from are around the tennis court area of Queen E Park, and also Lighthouse Park in West Van (with this one you get the city line and baker in one shot).

I know I was pushing it with the Vancouver 'burbs but this isn't even in Canada is it?

It doesn't matter how big your camera is, it's how you use it!

You can get good shots of Baker from the Cypress Mountain lookout...see my shot above.
Probably get some good views on the way up Mt. Seymour as well.
