I'm new to this beast of a camera too and already love the feel of the 1 series, however are there any settings that I need to check to ensure that I get well rounded and sharp images - the reason I ask is because comparing it to my 7D the images from the 7D look a little better/sharper and the auto white balance is more accurate, I'm wondering if I'm missing something... I had AF expansion (surround) activated and disabled with no noticeable improvement, any suggestions will be welcome, including "stop comparing a 2007 camera to a 2009 model or 10mp with an 18mp". It's also outside of the recall range being 580xxx.

This thread has some of the good photos and had confirmed my decision to pick one up!

A few from a 1D Mk III test drive I had a little while ago.

Nothing special, but it was a fun test drive.

I remember getting over 2000 shooting Marathon for about 6 hours with one battery charge, so i think if it is fully recharge and i shoot continuously or say in short lag within 8 hours then i can go more than 2000, but i shoot and stop and chimp and shoot and chimp and stop then i don't think it will last for over 2000 or even reach 2000, didn't try that but i can imagine it, so if say one battery can hold up to say 1500-2000 then 2 batteries can go far to up to 4000 maybe.

I am happy that i can use a battery from my 1Ds3 with 1D3 because they are both the same and i don't need to buy spare when i use only one body to shoot in occasions.

When I turn off review and use high speed continuous shooting, I have no problem to go over 3000 with 1 battery

Indeed, the LCD preview exhausting some of the battery power, so i understand i can go beyond 2000 when the preview option is off.

hello everyone, thinking about purchasing a mkiii for $1200 with 60k actuations, is this a good value? besides clean sensor/autofocus, actuations, and not stolen, what other questions should i ask the seller?

thanks

check the date code to see if it needs the autofocus fix or not. Might see if he'll go down another $100 as well. I picked up a mint one off of here, it had slightly more actuations but it had been well cared for. it was $1100 shipped.

Mine was fine, so I'm not up on the AF issue, but it looks like (external link) the fix is needed for serial numbers between 501001 and 54656.

I agree on the $1100 recommendation. I paid $1200 for mine back in July, and I'm pretty sure they've lost that $100 of depreciation since then.

I don't know if i should send mine for service, it is with SN 547...., so i have that fine package, but i feel if i may send it for service as long it is available yet so they may do something to make it a better AF?
